Ellie watched him for a minute before letting out a soft sigh. Stepping closer to him, she took the ice from his hand, keeping her attention drawn to it and refusing to look up at him. Taking his hand in her own gingerly, she surveyed it for any signs of bruising or swelling that might have indicated that he had seriously hurt himself. Not seeing anything that looked like it could have been a serious problem, she replaced the ice on top of it, only then daring to look up at him. She had removed her hand from his own but she still held the ice in place for him and part of her liked to think that she was helping - that she was taking the sting away from his physical pain but also that her small act of kindness was in some way taking the sting away from their fractured friendship. "You don't have to leave," she told him softly. "I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but I don't think that you necessarily did anything wrong - at least not if he's as bad as you've said before."
She didn't say anything for a moment, trying to figure out exactly how she wanted to phrase the next part. "Though... I can leave you alone if you'd like me to. I know that we're not..." she shrugged it off, looking back down at his injured hand. "I can leave."

Brody smiled back at her, happy to let her handle the situation in whatever way she needed to, especially if it involved her taking care of her brother in any way. Of all of Melanie's traits, it was her relationship with Jamie that was truly the most redeeming, just in the fact that he truly believed there wasn't anything that she wouldn't do for your younger brother.
"Hey," Jamie said forcefully at her statement of calling his friends names. Though, again it seemed like she had really had someone other than her own best interests at heart when she had gotten herself involved. "Well, thank you for that."

Everett froze for the briefest of moments when Ellie got closer and took his hand. He looked down at her for a moment, struck by how much he'd missed her recently. "Yes, well. I've done a lot of things wrong lately, tonight may have been one of the very few things I've gotten right." Taking a breath, he shook his head. "No, I don't want you to go," he admitted gently. He reached with his free hand for his previously forgotten drink, taking a long sip of it and wincing. He stood there for a moment, silently, and shook his head. "I'm sorry, Ellie."

Melanie rolled her eyes at her brother, leaning in to kiss him on the cheek before shaking her had at him. "Have fun tonight, don't do anything I'd do," she warned him before turning to Brody and stepping closer to him.
She placed her hands on his shoulders, smiling at him. "That was virtually painless now, wasn't it?" She tilted her head at him and laughed softly. "Some end of the summer party," she lamented. "Now you're going off to college. I'm going to have to find a hobby," she made a face and shook her head before grinning at him. "Want to head upstairs?" she offered. "End the summer appropriately?"

Jamie nodded at Melanie, promising that he would be on his best behavior, but the truth was that he never really had the intention of taking her advice. As her attention turned back to Brody, he turned to Kensi and smiled softly at her. "Did you still want to check in on Everett and see if everything was okay? Or did you want to ... maybe get out of here?" He still wasn't used to really flirting with Kensi in the way that he supposed he should have, and even more than that, he wasn't sure how to really be there for her friends either. Melanie had been his closest friend for as long as he could remember, though he supposed that the Tyler girls weren't far behind, but the sudden inclusion of more people in his social circle still left him uncertain about how much he was supposed to care or how much he was supposed to intervene.
Brody grinned, leaning down and pressing a kiss to her lips. "Yes. I think that's probably the only way that we could properly end the summer." He tried not to think that this could also be the last time that they were together in this way, but it was hard not to think of how much things were likely to change once he was in Ithaca.
Ellie found that she still was struggling to look at him and so she continued to look down at his damaged hand. "I am sorry that it came to this for you," she confessed to him. For all that she still wanted to be mad at him, and for as much arguing and fighting as she had been doing with her own parents recently, she couldn't imagine being in his shoes. At his apology she did look up at him, giving him a soft smile. "It's ... fine," she gave a small shrug. It hadn't been fine - it had affected her a lot more than it should have, but she supposed it had also thrown into perspective exactly how she had felt about him too. And while that had been an interesting realization for her to come to, it had also not amounted to anything causing both her pride and her feelings to be hurt by the entire exchange. She should have tried to move on, she knew, and she thought that she had when she had started going out and spending more time with Will, but Melanie Benson of all people had been the one to forcibly inform her that it wasn't. Now she wasn't sure what she had been doing, and truthfully she wasn't even sure what she was doing now. She just new that she was relieved that he hadn't asked her to leave.
