Fighting back a smile, Melanie turned to look up at him. Her fingers toyed gently with the end of her hair, chest pushed slightly forward. His looks hadn't gone unnoticed and there was nothing that Melanie enjoyed more than a handsome man appraising her body.
"I think that Brody is a big boy and can take care of himself. But if I were to wander off I'd want to let him know," she told Tripp. She shrugged a shoulder up. "Of course, that's only if there was an interesting way to occupy my time elsewhere," she nodded matter of factory. "It does take an awful lot to keep up my interests."

Tripp smirked at her, nodding his agreement. She intrigued him, that was obvious already so early in their conversation. Though as much as he was intrigued by who she was, he kept thinking about what it was going to be like to get her back to his hotel room. He had already started picturing it, thinking about what she looked like under her dress when he had made the decision that she should probably tell her friend that she would be unable to keep him company for the rest of the evening. He trusted that Brody Finn was more than capable of keeping himself occupied and wouldn't miss the company of his beautiful companion. If he had been in the younger man's shoes, he wouldn't have let her wander off on her own in the first place had he expected her to come back.
"I don't think it would be a problem to keep you entertained, Melanie," he told her, grinning coyly. "Let's get out of here and I can prove it to you."

Melanie grinned at Tripp and nodded, she placed her hand on his arm and tilted her head at him. "Just give me one minute," she told him, turning around to search for Brody. Zeroing in on him, she made her way over and touched his shoulder.
"Brody, I need to borrow you for a moment" she greeted, gesturing for him to step away from his conversation. "I made a new friend," she told him. "You don't mind if I..." She trailed off and smiled at him. "You should leave too, go find a real party. Find a hot girl and we can compare notes tomorrow." She smiled softly at him, "I'll tell your parents you networked and were amazingly well behaved all night."

Brody excused himself from the small group he had been chatting with, smirking knowingly at Melanie. Quite honestly the entire event hadn't been as painful as he had been expecting it to be, but he still appreciated her saving him from any more polite chatter. He had been invited to a party that evening, one he had been hoping to escape this mixer to attend with Melanie, but it appeared that he might be flying solo for the rest of the night. "Do you ever manage to go anywhere without making new friends?" he teased her. If he were being entirely selfless, he had to admit that he was glad that she had. Over the last several months his opinion of her had changed to the point where he truly did hope that she was happy - with everything. And that included with finding someone that she wanted to be with, even if it was just for one night.
"I heard of an off-campus party tonight so I'll probably go check that out soon, but you go and have fun. Don't... Well, just be careful?" It felt strange to be the one telling her to go off and spend the night with a man that she just met, but he had been trying very hard to have a normal friendship with her now. "Let me know if you end up coming back to my apartment tonight and I'll make sure I'm there to let you in."

Melanie laughed brightly at Brody, shaking her head at him. "I'm always careful, Finn." She leaned in and kissed him on the cheek again. "I'll talk to you later, I'll bring coffee."
Offering Brody a wink, she stepped back. "Do something I'd do tonight, Brody. Live a little." She turned and found Tripp again, walking up to him with a smirk. "So, shall we?" she asked him with a tilt of her head.

Laughing softly, he nodded at her, promising that he would try and take a page out of her book. Turning back to the group of people he had just been in a conversation with, he made his excuses and thanked them for his time, ensuring them that he would see them at the next school function or guaranteeing that he would follow up with them about advice for various classes and activities. Glancing over in the direction he had seen Melanie disappear in, he made sure that she was okay one last time before leaving the mixer himself.
Tripp grinned at her, "We shall." Setting his now empty glass back down on the bar before turning his attention back to her, he offered her his arm as he led her out of the crowd of acquaintances.
