AJ looked at her dress and chewed on her lip for a moment, trying to decide what she should do. "Do you think that they could clean it?" she asked softly. While AJ wasn't exactly popular at her own school, she flew under the radar enough to avoid any sort of incidents. Suddenly being thrust into this situation was alarming and upsetting. She didn't blame James, but she did feel as though if she'd just kept reading her book she would have avoided this entire thing all together. Still, the offer to have her dress cleaned was tempting. "Can we go?" she asked, casting a wary glance over her shoulder at his ex-girlfriend.
Kensi stewed a bit, ordering a new drink. She was disappointed that her little incident hadn't had the desired effect and she turned around just in time to see Everett and Ellie approaching and took a long sip from her new glass. She huffed a bit and pouted at them both. "Do you guys want to get out of here and go do something fun?"
Everett sighed at Kensi as he led Ellie over to their friend. "We were actually planning on staying here for the rest of the night, Kens. But maybe you should take it easy on the drinking and relax a bit," he suggested gently.
Will turned to Sloane, smirking at her. "I think a good course of action might be for you to take your cousin aside tomorrow and let her know that James Benson doesn't have the greatest reputation, in fact - you might want to tell her that he, like his older sister, is always up to no good. Maybe suggest she go out with your charming, kind British friend."

He supposed it was probably selfish, but Jamie was glad that AJ didn't immediately tell him to leave her alone. He wasn't sure how their escape was going to go over, and he hoped very much that Kensi didn't try and follow them, but he figured that if worst came to worst then he could easily have her escorted from the hotel. There was only so much drama she could cause in a place that his family owned, after all. Nodding at AJ, he contemplated for a moment offering her his hand and leading her out of the ballroom, but he figured that he was only asking for trouble at that point. "I think it's definitely worth the try," he told her, placing his hand on the small of her back to lead her out of the room.
Ellie appreciated that Everett was trying to be very diplomatic but the more that she let the situation dwell and the closer she came to Kensi, the more she had to admit that she wasn't necessarily thrilled with her friend. Regardless of what had happened between her and Jamie, it didn't seem to justify taking it out on some poor girl they literally knew nothing about. She was sure that if the tables were turned and Kensi had been in Ellie's shoes she would have taken issue with it all as well. "Kensi, what is going on?" she questioned, "Is this all really necessary? What is it accomplishing? Do you really think that Jamie wants to get back together with you now?" She hadn't meant to come across as being so harsh, but she was having a hard time understanding what Kensi had been thinking.
Sloane looked at him for a moment, a smirk tugging at her own lips. "That could certainly do it," she agreed. "I'll make sure to bring it up with her as soon as I get a chance. But that does put us back at square one, doesn't it? We know what our plans are for tomorrow and moving forward, but what about tonight?" She already a pretty good idea of what their plans would be, and she had been sure that they had already been on their way there before drama reemerged around her cousin, but she couldn't say that she didn't like playing her own games either.

Kensi scowled a bit as Jamie and his new friend exited and Ellie seemed to start lecturing her. "Seriously, Ellie? You want to talk to me about unnecessary choices?" she asked incredulously. Turning on Everett, she scowled at him, too. "So that's it, now that you two are a thing when I need you it doesn't rank as important enough?" Crossing her arms in front of her chest, shook her head at the both of them. "Whatever," she grumbled, taking another long sip from her glass and placing it aside.
Everett sighed, frowning at Kensi. He had been friends with her for several years now, but wasn't sure that he had the patience for this kind of behavior. Frowning, he looked over at Ellie and sighed, "Kensi, it's not that. We're just trying to get through the night with as little drama as possible," he tried to reason.
Will smirked at Sloane, gesturing for her to follow him so that they could exit the party and find someplace more private to celebrate their New Year. "I have plenty of ideas for our night," he told her.

Ellie's gaze on her friend narrowed and a frown made her way to her face as Kensi seemed to respond negatively to what she had said. She hadn't intended on lecturing Kensi or making it seem like she wasn't there for her or that she didn't think that she was handling things the best she could, but the second that it started to lean in a personal direction her instincts took over and her temper pulsed. "What is that supposed to mean - unnecessary choices?" When Kensi turned things around on Everett and their very new relationship, she could actually feel her face beginning to flush in anger. "Kensi, our relationship doesn't make any difference to this whole thing. We're your friends and we just wanted to make sure that you weren't doing anything stupid or anything that you would regret in the morning. And right now I think that you're making a huge mistake and you're absolutely going to regret it later."
Sighing heavily, she pushed a stray strand of hair out of her face in frustration. "Just let Jamie move on if that's what he wants to do. You should, too."

Kensi rolled her eyes at Ellie, shaking her head at the other girl. "It means you've made some shitty choices too, El, but I've always had your back. I took you out - I stood by you, I was on your side every step of the way, even when I didn't agree with it." She scowled, "And if I'd told you that you were making a big mistake, you would have just gotten pissed to, so forgive me if I don't want to hear it from you," she spat out. Shaking her head, she frowned. "Whatever, you guys enjoy your date. I'll find something else to do."
Everett pinched the bridge of his nose again and shook her head. "Kensi, seriously? Take it easy," he warned, not liking the way that Kensi was speaking to Ellie at all. "Maybe we should get you a cab home."

Ellie ignored Everett's suggestion of getting Kensi out of there, for as much as she would have loved to get her friend into a cab and on her way home, she hated the thought that she was going to get the last word. Particularly when that word wasn't favorable toward her. "I never said that I didn't have you back, Kensi. I'm just saying that maybe you should cut Jamie and this girl some slack - he obviously doesn't want to talk to you right now and I think you're doing nothing but making it worse." She frowned, thinking to the several unfortunate instances that the other girl could have possibly been talking about. The reality was that Kensi had been there for her in a lot of times where she had maybe stopped thinking rationally, but the biggest difference had been that Kensi had allowed them to continue happening.
"And maybe you should have told me that I was making a mistake. Maybe that's what I needed to hear. Just like you need to hear it now." Having said her part in it all, getting Kensi into a cab was suddenly sounding much more appealing. "Let's get you home."

Kensi frowned at Ellie and Everett, shaking her head at them. "I can't believe this," she snapped at them both. "I needed to hear things after he dumped me. But you've been so busy with Everett and taking trips see your sister and her boyfriend."
"And for the record, he dumped me because of his sister who has been nothing but horrible to everyone, including your family, Ellie," she frowned. "Maybe I didn't handle it right when you were upset - but I was there. Don't say you've had my back," she told them both with a shake of her head. Shaking her head, she stepped away from them. "I can get myself home, but thanks."
Everett felt a bit badly. He'd known Kensi for so long and looked at her, often, like a younger sister. However, he didn't exactly love the way that she was speaking to Ellie. He wished suddenly that they'd stayed on the other side of the room. "Just let her go," he said to Ellie. "I'll talk to her tomorrow when she's sober."

Ellie didn't want her to leave right now, she wasn't entirely finished with the conversation that they had started, and she wasn't entirely convinced that she trusted her friend - if she could still call her that - to get home on her own. Shaking her head, she bit back a retort about the time that she had been spending with Everett in addition to the time that she had been spending with her sister in Ithaca. It didn't seem fair that Kensi was holding those two things against her when she should have known that she would have done her best to be there for Kensi had she simply asked her to. When Morgan had been gone she had relied on Kensi's friendship a lot, she had fundamentally used her as a replacement for her sister for those five months but since Morgan had returned and they had repaired their relationship, she had to admit that she hadn't been the best friend that she could have been to Kensi.
She turned to Everett with a frown, "She's not right, you know."
