In the Finn household, Christmas had always been an integral part of the family. Even before Brandon and Amber had started dating, she had always had a romanticized idea of the holiday, which had ultimately let Brandon to decide that it was the perfect time of the year for him to have proposed. After an engagement, a new puppy, and Brody's first Christmas all wrapped into one, whatever romantic notion of the holiday they had ever had before had just been outshined by something much bigger. That first Christmas together as a family was always going to hold an incredibly high spot on the list of the best Christmases that they had had together, though he felt that in his biased opinion that they had all been pretty great since. Their first Christmas as a married couple had followed the year before, and each year they seemed to have something new to celebrate and ultimately their little family event had grown to include members of their unofficial extended family.
Cassidy and Jeremy had begun attending on the years where going to Wisconsin wasn't feasible, and with their addition to the Finn family Christmas celebration, they eventually added five more people to their group of three. And over time it had been fun to watch the kids all grow up together, and the four adults had been excited to spend some time catching up with each other, sharing stories about what weird things their children had done, and just take part in each other's Christmas traditions.
When Brody had graduated from high school and started college, Brandon hadn't expected things to change. Maybe it was naive, or maybe he wanted to think that he could hold on to his son being a kid for just a little bit longer, but when Brody and Morgan had decided to spend the holidays together, he had been surprised by how much the change in plans had bothered him. It wasn't that his son had a girlfriend or that the familiarity of the situation had in any way changed - mostly because Morgan had become a pretty consistent staple of their home, too. It was the inclusion of the entire Tyler family that had bothered him.
Brandon's friendship with Riley had always come easily, and over time that hadn't changed. He still looked to her for legal advice, no matter how large her own company had taken on or who had been placed in charge of dealing with things on behalf of his own company. If anything it gave them a good excuse to plan lunch meetings and use them to catch up. Even Riley's relationship with Amber had improved over the years, which made him feel worse to admit that it was the addition of Adam to the mix that he disliked the most.
No matter how much their families had gone through together, no matter what sort of commonalities they had or agreements they had reached, it was still difficult to want to include the other man in any of Brandon's own personal moments. But, for the sake of their apparently head-over-heels children, he was trying to play nice.
Brody, on the other hand, was less concerned about trying to play nice that evening and was more focused on how he was going to keep himself from putting his hands all over his girlfriend. Their own Christmas celebration in Ithaca had taken an unexpected turn, and in spite of himself, he had found it difficult to keep from searching for excuses to excuse them to his bedroom. In all honesty, he was anxiously awaiting her arrival - it seemed like they were back at the beginnings of their relationship when everything was new and exciting, and he blamed her entirely for showing him a new side of her.
"Brody," Brandon had warned. "Stop pacing."
Brody stopped suddenly, having not even realized that he was doing it.

Amber was busy bustling around the Penthouse. Long ago, she’d given up on cooking a full meal – especially as their list of attendees for Christmas continued to grow. So she typically ordered food for everyone on Christmas through one of their favorite restaurants and then focused on dessert and decorations. When Morgan and Brody had begun to date seriously and discussed the possibility of spending holidays together, Amber had been adamant about retaining Christmas at their home. The holiday had always been her favorite and had also always meant a lot to her, especially following her engagement to Brandon.
She finished setting out the last of the cookies she’d decorated earlier in the day before walking over to Brandon, placing a kiss on his lips. The three of them had enjoyed a quiet Christmas morning where all three of them had been spoiled by Christmas gifts as per their usual tradition. Now, she was looking forward to an evening with family and friends. “Merry Christmas, I hope you’re hungry – I think we’ll have leftovers for a week,” she teased. “You have to have at least one cookie. Cassidy is bringing pies, but I made the cookies.”
Morgan Tyler was extremely nervous herself as pressed the button for the elevator to take her and her family up to the Penthouse. While she’d spent a lot of time there over the years, now she was going with her entire family to spend Christmas with her boyfriend, she looked at her father and sister. “Could this not turn into another game of how many times can Brody drop Morgan?” she asked them pointedly as she hoisted her tote bag, full of Christmas gifts, up on her shoulder.
“MORGAN!” a little voice squeaked and the redhead looked up just in time to see Avery Thomas running straight for her. It was through quick thinking that Morgan dropped the bag gently on the floor of the elevator bay and bent down to pick the eight year old up in a bit hug. “Merry Christmas! I’m so happy you’re here! Can we go in the elevator together? Can I push the button? Mom and Dad got me a Fez for Christmas, do you like it?” she giggled, showing off her new bright red hat. “Is one of those for me?” she asked, eying the bag of presents on the floor.
Morgan laughed. “You’ll have to wait and see,” she greeted the rest of the Thomas family easily and smiled as Cassidy gave her family hugs hello. “We might need two elevator cars,” she admitted.
“I want to go up with you,” Avery insisted.
Cassidy laughed, “If you can handle her for an entire elevator ride, she can go up with you. She’s very excited to see everyone.” Then again, so was Cassidy, she looped her arm through her husband’s and beamed at him. She was extremely happy to have news to share – especially with their extended family growing bigger and bigger by the day. The newest addition to the Thomas family had come as surprising but welcome news for her and Jeremy.
Morgan nodded, placing Avery down and holding her hand so that her family and the little girl could pile into the first elevator car on its way upstairs.

Now that Brody's pacing at finally stopped, Brandon could feel himself becoming less tense toward the entire evening. Ultimately they were still celebrating Christmas with their closest friends and that, he supposed, was the important part. Smiling at his wife fondly, he pulled her in for another kiss before nodding. "Okay, fine. But you'll owe me later," he teased.
"Can you guys try and not do that today?" Brody asked his parents, wondering if there was ever going to be a time in his life where he thought that their affection toward each other was cute and not just gross. He figured that after everything that he had seen and everything that he had heard, he was just very lucky that he hadn't wound up needing a therapist at a young age. Or maybe he should have, considering the thoughts that had been running through his head about what he was going to do when he saw Morgan.
"Do what?" Brandon feigned ignorance.
"Just ... I don't know. Hands to yourselves?"
In response to his son, Brandon just laughed.
Ellie grinned at her sister, laughing at her question of leaving her and Brody alone for the evening. "I can't make any promises - it entirely depends on what kind of pie there is." She shared another smile with her mother, amusing herself with the memory of the way that her mother had convinced her and her father to make things a little more amusing for them. "And how cutesy you and Brody are being."
"Ellie, leave her be." Adam warned. While he wasn't necessarily thrilled about this particular holiday today, he had promised both his wife and his daughter that he would try and play nice. In all honesty, it wasn't even Brody that he had a problem at this point, it was just the entire thought that his daughter was growing up and getting involved in a serious relationship with anyone.

Morgan gave her father a grateful smile, leaning her head on his shoulder briefly on the elevator ride up consider one hand was being held by an eight year old and the other was holding the bag of presents. "Thanks dad," she told him softly. She knew it wasn't easy for him, but he had promised to be better about this holiday and given the fact that the family was changing their yearly plans for her sake, she was very grateful. She smiled as the elevator doors slid open and knocked. Amber looked at her son, also chuckling. "You don't have much room to talk with Morgan on her way over," she told him, giving her husband one more quick kiss just before she heard the knock at the door and went to answer it. Finding the Tyler family plus one eight year old Avery Thomas on the other side, she smiled warmly at them all. "Hi! Merry Christmas, come on in."
Riley reached for her husband's hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. She was actually happy with their plans for the evening. When Morgan had mentioned wanting to spend time with Brody for the holidays, she'd been worried about getting less time with her daughter. But the way it worked out had been nice - getting her for Thanksgiving and also being able to spend Christmas with her without having to be the one that prepared the meal. Plus, over the years her friendship with Brandon Finn had only grown and despite his lukewarm relationship with her husband, she wanted to believe they could have a nice time.
Avery bounced on her feet. "Mommy and Daddy are in the next elevator," she explained before running into the Penthouse and making a bee line for Brody. "You're home, you're home, you're home!" she exclaimed, hugging him tightly. "Did you miss me? Did you bring me any presents? Can I come to school with you because the other kids are so mean at my school? Can we play games? Are there cookies? Did Santa bring you anything good?"
Morgan laughed softly, watching fondly as Avery monopolized a bit of Brody's time. But she didn't mind, instead she greeted Amber with a bright smile and went to go put the gifts for everyone under the tree.

Brody would have said something to argue what his mother had said about the affection that he was sure to show toward Morgan when she arrived, but he knew that she was right. The biggest difference between last month's Thanksgiving dinner with Morgan's family and that evening's Christmas celebration with his own was that he felt more comfortable being affectionate with her, for whatever reason. It was entirely possible that it was just the fact that they were in his home - the first place that he had kissed her without trying to justify it as anything other than what it was and the first place that they had slept together. Their relationship seemed comfortable here, almost like how it felt in Ithaca. Though, another voice in the back of his head told him that he was feeling affectionate toward her for a completely different reason. They had altered their own physical relationship in pretty significant ways the last time that they had really spend much time together, and he wasn't sure that he was going to be able to look at her without dragging her into his room to show her how much he had missed her in such a short timeframe.
He had been about to fall into a daydream of those thoughts when Avery had come rushing toward him, latching her grip onto him. Laughing, he wrapped his arms around her in return. "Avery! Of course I missed you. But you're going to have to wait and see about presents," he teased her. "You can come visit me at school, and you can tell me all about the mean kids at your school and I'll take care of it," he promised. As she continued to throw questions at him, moving a mile a minute, he tried to do his best to keep up with all of her questions. "Yes, games are good - yes, ask Aunt Amber for cookies, I'm sure she would love to share. And of course he did, I've been very good this year-" Lies, a voice in the back of his head told him. "Have you been good?"
He looked up in the direction of the door to see his girlfriend greeting his mother and moving toward the tree and for a second he tried to figure out how to best detach the eight-year-old girl from his limbs so that he could go say hello to her properly. Instead he gave her a warm smile and a little wave.
Ellie laughed at the way that Avery bounded off, shaking her head at the energetic little girl. Taking note of the fact that her sister was doing her very best to not immediately tackle her boyfriend to the ground, she couldn't help but think of Everett briefly. Their little Christmas celebration in Ithaca hadn't gone quite the way that she had planned, and while they had spoken since then, she still kept feeling as though her own impatience was continuing to prove problematic for them. So she was trying her best, she had decided that she wasn't going to press it anymore. She had extended the invitation for him to join them here, but she had to admit that she wasn't entirely sure how he had felt about it.

Morgan smiled brightly at Brody from across the room, walking over to him and Avery. She was aware that her father was standing in the room, but leaned up on her tiptoes to kiss him quickly, pulling away just as fast and beaming at him. “Merry Christmas,” she told him. Her face flushed, remembering the last time the two of them had been alone together – and then remembering that they had definitely not been alone. Clearing her throat, she bent down to look at Avery. “I got you something,” she told the little girl.
Avery clapped her hands together excitedly and then looked up when her mother, father, and siblings walked into the room. She tugged on Brody’s hand. “I have a secret to tell you guys later,” she told them. “MOM! BRODY SAYS I CAN VISIT HIM AT SCHOOL! CAN I GO?”
“Honey, I don’t know about how I feel about my eight year old experiencing college life,” her mother quipped as she walked in, barely having to settle in before laughing at her daughter’s exuberance. Cassidy smiled happily, pulling Amber into a big hug. “I thought by the time we got up here, Avery would have eaten all of the cookies and torn all the gifts open,” she joked. Spotting Ellie, she waved happily at the girl. “How’s my favorite intern?” she questioned with a bright smile.
Riley squeezed Adam’s hand, leading him over to Brandon with a smile. She held out a bottle of scotch that she’d selected for them as a gift for having them over. “I know wine is usually more fun for the whole family, but I figured it was you.”

Brody tried not to frown when she quickly pulled back from him, trying to remind himself that throwing her to his parents' couch surrounded by their friends and family was probably not the smartest thing that he could have done. Instead, he smiled at her, "Hi," he repeated his greeting, not sure what else he was supposed to say that didn't immediately turn into him suggesting that they go to his bedroom to look for a fictional present he thought he must have left in there. Thankfully she turned her attention to Avery as she promised them a secret and shouted across the room. Laughing softly at her excitement, he shook his head and squatted down to Avery's level.
"Hey, why don't we see if there's some time that your whole family wants to come see my school?" he suggested to her. "And, you haven't told me what you got for Christmas yet, miss. I see you have a new hat, did you get that for Christmas?" He hated to admit it but using Avery as a distraction from excusing himself to the other room with Morgan seemed to be a good plan.
Ellie grinned brightly at Cassidy's greeting, "Hey, boss." Her internship with Cassidy had actually been one of the most amazing parts of the last year, she had to admit. It had kept her busy while Morgan had been gone and it had inspired her to apply to schools where she could continue studying fashion, hopefully getting to the point where some day she could fill a position like the ones that Cassidy and Amber held. She thought that ultimately that was her career goal, she just wasn't entirely sure that her lawyer parents and future-President sister would totally understand. Though, she amended, Morgan had seemed ridiculously thrilled when she told her about the schools she had applied to. "Thank you for the recommendation letter to FIT, by the way. I'm hoping to hear from them soon."
Adam smiled softly at his wife, squeezing her hand quickly in response. Like he had told Morgan, he was going to do his best not to be the overprotective dad, but like he had repetitively told Riley, he was doing his best to take the entire involvement with the Finns in stride. At least, he admitted, his relationship with Amber had been long repaired and he was on friendly circumstances with her.
Brandon laughed at Riley's offering, accepting the scotch from her. "Thank you, I'm sure we'll be able to put this to good use. I'm just not sure if we should break into it today, or if we should save it for the day that our children decide to break to us that they're engaged." He had said it jokingly, but the moment the words came out of his mouth, he realized that it was a more logical concern than he would have originally thought it was.

Avery looked up at Brody, wrapping her arms around him once he was closer to her level. "This is my Fez, I got it for Christmas because Fezes are cool. I also got a tent that looks just like the TARDIS and a pair of new suspenders," she told him happily. "I was really good all year, so I also got everything I asked for," she told him proudly. Looking at both Morgan and Brody, she pouted at Brody. "You go to school too far away," she told him. "Morgan comes over on Tuesdays and plays with me and helps me with my homework, but she's not very good at math so you should come help me with math? And come tell the kids at school to leave me alone, Brody, please? They all pick on me because I don't have any friends but if you came to school and told them you were my best friend, they'd leave me alone.
"I can do second grade math, Avery," Morgan tried to tell her a bit stubbornly. She hated to admit it but part of her wished that Brody went to school closer to her as well. As much as she loved his apartment and their friends and life there, it was difficult to be away from him for half the week. She smiled sadly at the girl in front of them, stroking her hair. "I know all about getting picked on. Brody used to stick up for me too when I was little. If he can't make it to you school, I can go try."
Cassidy smiled happily at Ellie, pulling her into a hug. She liked working with the younger girl and in a few ways was reminded of herself when she'd first met Amber. While she'd been older at that point, she hoped to be as good to Ellie in the long run as Amber had been to her. "No problem, if you need me to make some calls, just let me know." She turned her attention up to her husband and smiled at him. "Ellie's my youngest and best intern."
Amber walked over with a glass of wine for Riley and a glass of scotch for Adam just as she heard Brandon's ill-thought joke. She chuckled and shook her head at him, handing the glass to Adam. "You look like you could use this," she said, even as she then wrapped her arm around Brandon and looked at him with a grin.
"Finn, try not to give Adam a heart attack with your sense of humor," Riley chided.

Avery's lament about him going to school too far away wasn't anything that he hadn't heard before already. Brody had heard the statement from his mom whenever she had the opportunity to tell him how much she missed him, he heard it from Morgan whenever they had felt that spending half the week away from each other was too much, and now hearing it from Avery was almost enough to make him want to fill out transfer papers. But, as he had discussed with Morgan, Cornell really did make the most sense for him and for what he wanted to do in his career. While they knew that the next three and a half years had the potential of being very long and very painful at times, they both knew that it would ultimately be worth it.
"Before I have to go back to school, I promise I'll stop by your school and tell the kids to leave you alone. And I'll help you with your math homework, too." He smiled at her and nodded, "I have a little bit before I have to go back, we'll definitely spend time together before then." He knew that people weren't supposed to pick favorites, but the more that Avery had come into her personality, the more inclined he had been to seek out her company. She provided a lot of fun and entertainment that he wasn't sure that he would have sought out for himself.
Jeremy smiled at Cassidy and nodded, "That's great, I'm glad that things are going so well." If he was being entirely honest, he was actually a little anxious for the moment that they had the opportunity to tell everyone about their news. It was hard to concentrate on much else, if he was being entirely honest. Seeking out Cassidy's hand, he traced his thumb along the back of it.
Adam frowned at Brandon's joke but accepted the glass of scotch from Amber graciously. It wasn't that he necessarily had a problem with Brody, it was the fact that he knew that there was still a very real possibility that Brandon's joke wasn't as impossible as he would have liked. He wasn't sure that he was ready for his eighteen year old daughter to be in such a serious relationship. "It's fine," he dismissed. "If you would have had a daughter you would have understood my fear. And I have two of them to deal with," he said it lightheartedly but both of his girls had reached an age where he was well beyond worrying for them. It was just a constant.

Avery beamed at Brody and nodded at him, hugging him tightly. “Thanks Brody!” she squeaked at him before looking at him and Morgan with a grin. She kissed Morgan on the cheek before skipping off in the direction of her older sister. She smiled brightly at her sister. “Hunter, Brody said we can ask Aunt Amber for cookies if we want them before dinner. I bet she’ll give us some,” she told her older sister as though she’d just learned the world’s greatest secret.
Morgan giggled a bit as Avery scampered off. She reached for Brody’s hand and smiled up at him. “I have your Christmas gift,” she told him. She’d already given him his gift in Ithaca, as it had been a gift for his apartment there. But now she had something in mind – that required a bit more privacy, she was hoping to get him alone for a little bit.
Cassidy smiled up at Jeremy, leaning up to kiss him quickly, ignoring her son’s groan of disgust as she did. Taking a brief moment before joining the others, she looked up at him. “I was thinking of waiting until we sat down for dinner to tell everyone?” she whispered to him with a bright smile. She was so excited to tell everyone that they were expecting another baby.
Amber laughed at Adam’s comment and nudged him. “Well, you raised two great smart girls. And we’re really happy you all were able to join us for Christmas,” she nodded.

Brody grinned at his girlfriend, just happy to have a brief moment with her before he was sure either the storm that was Avery, or soemone else from their family decided to interrupt again. Looking at her curiously for a second, he couldn't help but lean down and kiss her again, finding just being near her to be causing him to forget everything he had considered about trying to keep his public displays of affection to a minimum. "You've already given me my Christmas gift," he said when he finally dared to pull away from her.
Hunter smiled at her little sister's information about the cookies, having to admit to herself that no matter how old she got, Christmas was probably the one time of year where she found her family to be the most bearable. It wasn't that she had problems with them all the time, it was just she thought that at thirteen that she was probably past the age of wanting to play her sister's little weird games or her brother's pre-preteen brooding. She liked to think that she was just becoming a mature young woman, though she supposed that she could have stood to cut her family some slack. So at Avery's excitement over the cookies, she nodded and looked over in the direction of their aunt. "We should go ask her. Just try and be quiet so that Mom and Dad don't hear."
Jeremy nodded his agreement, "I think that would be good." He smiled at his wife, sharing in her excitement over their good news.
Adam grinned, taking another drink of the scotch Amber had handed him. "Thank you for inviting us. And you never know," he added, glancing over at Morgan and Brody. "Finn may not be entirely wrong."

Morgan grinned up at Brody, taking her hand in his. "I know, but I have something else that I want to give you," she told him. Her eyes glanced around the rest of the Penthouse for a moment and then she chewed on her lip. "I thought maybe, since my roommate went home for the holidays you could come with me to my dorm and I could give it to you." Noting that everyone seemed to be a bit busy, but freezing when her father glanced in their direction, she shrugged. "Or maybe later if we can get some privacy."
Avery grinned at Hunger, gently reaching up to adjust her new fez. "Okay, quiet, I've got it," she said with determination, although Avery Thomas had always had a problem with volume. Tugging on her sister's hand, she pulled her in the direction of their Aunt Amber, tugging on the woman's hand and beckoning down for her so that she could whisper.
Amber, however, glanced down at Avery and then smiled brightly. "I like your hat, Avery. We might feature that in the next issue of Vogue, you make it look just so trendy," then the blonde bent down and smiled at both girls. "The cookies are in the kitchen on the counter, but don't fill up, we have a lot of food," she winked at them.
Riley chuckled softly at Adam and shook her head. "Our daughter? I don't know, Adam. That girl's twenty year plan from when she was fifteen is color coded and laminated. I don't think we need to worry about anything like that for years now," she assured him.

"Oh," Brody said, unable to keep the grin off of his face. The physical changes in their relationship hadn't been the only changes that he had noticed, considering the fact that he had felt more and more in love with her every day. He figured that it was owed to the fact that he kept learning more about her and had been surprised by all of the new things he was finding out about her. "I think that could certainly be arranged," he smirked at her. "I'm sure we can find some time alone later."
Adam smiled at his wife, pleased that she had always known the best way to calm him down, even when he had been trying his best to make it seem like he was okay with it. He was sure that Morgan knew just what she was getting involved in, and while he would maybe have never been comfortable with having either of his children growing up and getting into a serious relationship with anyone, he supposed that he could trust them to at least make smart decisions. "I suppose you're right," he told her.

Christmas was going by as smoothly as possible. By the time food was served, everyone seemed to be getting along fairly well and even her father - with help from her mother - seemed more at ease. Morgan was extremely pleased. She reached for Brody's hand as everyone decompressed, full from their main course while Amber bustled around trying to get dessert ready, though no one seemed in a big rush apart from Avery, Hunter, and Blake - who apparently were always ready for dessert. Squeezing her boyfriend's hand, she leaned up and pressed another quick kiss to his lips. "So, I was thinking," she started slowly, only to halt when Avery came bouncing out of the kitchen with her hands full of cookies.
Avery made a bee line for her mother, followed by a laughing Amber who was trying to tell her not to make a big deal about being given dessert early. "I'm sorry, Cass, she demanded extra."
"They're for Mommy!" Avery exclaimed excitedly, climbing on the chair next to her mother and pushing a cookie towards her. "I want to make sure Stormy likes cookies, so we've got to give him as many as possible so he doesn't end up liking things like broccoli or carrots," she exclaimed. "And I heard Daddy say that Mommy was eating for two, so that means we can give him cookies now."
Cassidy's eyes went wide and she looked at Jeremy. At first she thought, as the silence settled briefly over the room, that they would have preferred to make a more formal announcement than their eight year old daughter trying to affect their new baby's taste in food. But suddenly, she seemed to realize it was almost a perfect way to tell everyone and she tilted her head back and laughed loudly, taking a bite out of the cookie offered to her by her daughter.

Jeremy stood momentarily surprised by his daughter's announcement, turning to Cassidy for any hint about what she wanted to do. It hadn't been exactly the way that they had wanted to tell everyone about the new addition to their family, but he figured that there maybe wasn't a better way than to just do it spontaneously. "Thanks, Avery," he said with a smile. "Well, obviously Cassidy and I have some news."
Brody had taken Morgan's hand easily, falling into a comfortable moment with her before Avery had deposited several cookies near his Aunt Cassidy. It took him just a second to realize what Avery had implied and he laughed, turning to Morgan. "Maybe that's what the secret was that she had to tell us before." With everyone's attention quickly turning to his aunt and uncle, he turned his attention back to his girlfriend, "I think there might be something in my bedroom that we should go look for," he said, dropping his voice to whisper suggestively in her ear.
