She laughed at his idea to abandon the contest and nodded in agreement. "We fail at camping," she announced.
Madison wasn't convinced that he was entirely over the situation with Olivia, but she wasn't sure how to press it further. It would have been easier to start that conversation had they been alone, without so many of their collegues mingling and catching up nearby.
If she was being honest, she wasn't sure that she would ever be okay with the history that he had with Olivia. He had dismissed it before as nothing but history now, but if they knew anything from experience it was that sometimes history could be the catalyst for something new. It was probably the fact that she had felt first-hand what it was like to have him forget about her and go back to Olivia that kept her from being able to push the thought away entirely.
But it did seem like he was sincere about being glad to have her here. "Me too," she pressed herself against him and reached her arms up around his neck. "I'm sorry that your night started off badly. But if there's any way that I can help you to improve your overall feelings toward it, just let me know."

Parker grinned a bit at her offer and thought it over for a bit. "I bet that Cooper would much prefer a camping trip with his daughter than one with his daughter and me. Maybe we should head back to the city, sleep in a bed like civilized human beings," he suggested. "More specifically, both of us in my bed."
Cooper was approaching with Melanie on his shoulders, overhearing Parker's last comment. "Well, since you were possibly making the tent worse, Parker, I think I can soldier on without you."

Maddy blushed, hearing Cooper remark about Parker's last comment. She felt like she had gotten caught with her hand in the cookie jar. "I hope you and Melanie have a great time," she said to Cooper, untangling herself from Parker to say goodbye. "And Melanie, thank you for letting me play with your doll today." She smiled at the little girl and waved at both of the Bensons before turning back to Parker.
"To the city then?"
