Adam watched the exchange between Riley and her mother cautiously, hesitating on whether or not he should have stepped in and said something to defend either his fiancee or the situation that she suddenly found herself in. He hated that this cycle of drama just continued to create issues for her, and of everything that she had to face before, this was perhaps the circumstance that he felt the worst about. Losing her job and losing Garrett had turned out to be the best for her, at least in his own selfish opinion, but the aftermath of seeing her mother again wasn't something that he was sure he could foresee. He gave a polite little half-smile at Riley's mother as he followed Riley to the bar to speak to her father. Other than stand by her side and show his support for her, he wasn't sure if there was much else that he could do. Short of calling off the party in its entirety, but he was sure that his own mother's wrath on that was not something he personally wanted to face. Instead, he ordered himself and Riley a couple of drinks and reached down to squeeze her hand reassuringly. "I'm here if you need me," he reminded.
