Everett was out to clear his head. Since returning to New York City from his year abroad, he'd found home was even more unpleasant than he remembered. Upon returning, he'd been happy to see his mother and shower her with cheesy souvenirs he'd acquired for her, the kind he knew that she loved. And while she was happy to see him, it was obvious that twelve months of just her and Eliot Quinn hadn't been the best thing for her and it was obvious she'd taken to a more liberal dosage of her valium. While she would never blame him, and even encouraged him to leave home entirely due to his own hostile relationship with his father, he refused and he blamed himself for what had gone on.
It was after a few scathing words had been shared with his father before he'd left for the office, that Everett had checked in on his mother - who was still in bed very well near noon, and went to go to the park, unable to bear the weight of his mother's misery much longer. He brought his camera with him, and while some of his friends made fun of him for still using film, calling him antiquated, he liked it and enjoyed scavenging for old cameras wherever he could purchase them.
He was snapping pictures around the park, when he spotted a familiar face standing not too far away, walking up to her, he grinned. "Hey," he held up his camera. "You camera shy?"

As happy as Ellie was for her sister, and as much as she had wished that Morgan and Brody would finally just get together and be happy together, she had to admit that she missed having her sister around all of the time. She assumed that it was just a twin thing, or maybe it was the fact that she actually liked her sister's company, but Morgan was more than just her sister. She was her best friend and her closest confidant and while she did have friends of her own, it wasn't quite the same as having Morgan around. There were hundreds of inside jokes that they would just never get and thousand of little things that she often did that they found humorous and weird. It wasn't quite the same answering questions with meows when her friends laughed and called her weird, whereas she knew that her sister would giggle and make cat jokes right back at her.
So while she had helped her sister finagle some time with Brody, Ellie just hadn't felt the desire to call on any of her friends for company. She did, however, grab a notebook and set out for the park in the hope for some time to just get lost in her own thoughts. Jotting down phrases that she was inspired by, sketching something that she just couldn't get out of her head, simply having some sort of creative outlet, that was how she often found herself finding the greatest solitude. She had been walking through the park, stopping every now and then to take in something that inspired her, whether it was a beautiful flower or an adorable couple when she found himself suddenly face to face with Everett and his camera. "Not particularly," she laughed. "Aspiring photographer, then?"

Everett grinned, lifting his camera up and snapping a quick picture abruptly with a soft laugh. "It's more of a hobby," he told her reflexively. Even though he enjoyed photography, he wasn't sure what he would do with it and the knowledge that his father would vehemently disapprove. He'd created enough waves by not going to college right away, he still wasn't sure what he was going to do. Smiling at Ellie, he nodded.
"What brings you out here today?" he asked. After talking to Ellie the other night at Brody Finn's party, he had to admit he was intrigued by her. She was different than most of the girls he knew, like Melanie, who was all about flirting and partying and creating scenes. Ellie had been interesting to talk to and funny and he had to admit watching her try to match Brody Finn with her twin sister was endearing.
So he was pleased that it was her that he ran into on his outing, even though he probably should have been putting in some effort to keep his distance.

"It's a pretty good hobby to have." In all truth, Ellie had already realized that she liked Everett well enough. She had liked talking to him at Brody's party, and had even appreciated the fact that he hadn't tried to stop her or make fun of her for her meddling in her sister's love life. He was quickly proving that he was the sort of person that she would be happy to have as a friend though she was sure that saying that at the moment was sure to cause him to look at her oddly, especially considering the fact that they had only really ever had one conversation before. Though, as she was sure that he was going to have to eventually get to know her, he was going to have to realize that she tended to make decisions on her friends very quickly. That, she supposed, was entirely the reason why she tended to have so many friends but so few really close ones. Which brought her thoughts back to her sister.
Shrugging, she looked around the park briefly, "I don't really know. I just felt like getting out today. The park seemed like as good a place as any to explore," she smiled at him. "Do you always come to the park to take pictures of girls you barely know?" she teased.

Everett smiled, shaking his head. "See, now when you put it like that it makes me sound really creepy. Everywhere I go, I take pictures of people I barely know regardless of gender," he corrected with a chuckle, rubbing the back of his neck and lowering his camera. "Admittedly, you're much more photogenic than the hot dog vendor I snapped a picture of on my way over her. But don't tell Amir that, he'll just get jealous and pouty and I'll never get a free hot dog again," he winked.
He nodded at her. "So, how did it go the other night?" he asked. "Your matchmaking mission, I mean. Was it a success? Because if not, I saw in a movie once that if you just lock them in a closet for a while they might just come to their senses. Unless I'm thinking of a scene from a horror movie, in which case they're sitting ducks for Freddy...or Jason." he teased but grinned at her. "It's sweet, you know. When I was really little, I wanted a brother or a sister," he told her. Of course, that desire had faded quickly when he was a child, not really wanting anyone else subjected to growing up with his father.

Ellie laughed. In all honesty, she didn't find it creepy, she actually found it endearing. It was sort of what she did with her notebook, but instead of capturing a moment she was capturing how those moments made her feel of things that they made her think of. "I promise your secret is safe with me. I wouldn't want you to lose your free hot dogs."
At the mention of her matchmaking she grinned. "It was a success, actually. My sister and Brody Finn have been ignoring their feelings for each other for as long as I can remember. I figured that it was time for a little push and it seems like it worked out." Actually, it has worked out a little too well, but that still didn't overshadow how really and truly happy she was for Morgan. "But I'll keep the closet idea in mind for next time. And if she really drives me crazy, maybe I'll see if I can find Freddy or Jason too." Not that she necessarily expected Morgan to get on her nerves. That was the nice thing about her relationship with her sister, aside from the normal sibling banter, and some apparent sibling rivalry on her part, she never really felt the need to fight with her. "We're twins, you know." She commented offhandedly.

Everett nodded at her, grinning. He thought it was nice that she'd gone out of her way to try and fix her sister up with a guy Morgan obviously had been interested in. The truth was, he wasn't close enough with any of them to really know for sure, but vaguely remembered his last year in high school that the redhead had otherwise been consistently near Brody Finn. He himself had been too preoccupied his senior year to really focus on anything other than his home life and graduating on time.
He nodded when Ellie mentioned they were twins. "Yeah, I know," he told her with a grin. He didn't mention that the reason he knew it was because of an offhanded preoccupation his father had with some of the more socially elite families of the Upper East Side, he left that out entirely and hoped to never really bring it up. Though the knowledge made him wonder if Ellie was better off if he excused himself and let her be for the rest of the afternoon. He didn't do that, though. Despite the fact that it might be for the best. Maybe sometimes he was his father's selfish son. "So how does that go, if I pinch you does she feel it?" he asked teasingly.

Ellie shrugged, she hadn't been entirely sure why she felt the need to point out that she and her sister were twins. She tried to use it as a reason of why she had justified trying to get Morgan and Brody together, perhaps because it seemed less like a meddling little sister thing to do if people knew that they were only five minutes apart and not five years. She realized that from an outsider's perspective that it might look like she had in fact been meddling, but knowing her sister, it had been a much-needed push. "We tried to figure out how that worked a lot when we were younger, but I don't think our ESP is properly hooked up," she grinned at him. "Though, now that we're older I'm kind of glad that it doesn't work. That would make certain situations... really awkward."

Everett laughed at Ellie, shaking his head at her. "Yeah, I can see how that might be awkward," he nodded, lifting his camera up and snapping a photo of something in the distance that caught his eye. "You two don't seem similar," he observed but then shrugged a shoulder up. "I mean, obviously you're not identical twins. I didn't mean it in a bad way, either. It's just interesting. I always sort of figured siblings in general turn out similar - like a nurture over nature thing." And that had, of course, always been one of Everett's concerns - that he was more like Eliot Quinn than he ever would have liked to admit.
"Guess you don't buy into that," he nodded, as he gestured for her to keep walking and walked along side her. He glanced around for a bit before shaking his head. "Wait, stay there. Light's great," he nodded, snapping another photograph of her.

She nodded. Maybe that was another reason why she felt the need to point out that she and Morgan were twins because their dissimilarity seemed to amuse her in a way. Ellie had always considered that her sister was the smart, studious, and beautiful one. But Morgan had also gotten a certain degree of awkwardness that Ellie had never truly experienced. For every trait that Morgan seemed to have, Ellie felt as though she had gotten the contrast. It was probably the root of their small sibling rivalry though she wasn't sure that Morgan knew that such feelings existed. "I don't know, I think that nature plays a big part in things sometimes. Morgan is a lot like my mom, and from what I've heard I'm a lot like my dad when he was younger. But more than anything, I think that we've both just kind of chosen our own ways. She likes studying and getting good grades and I -" she shrugged again, smile still poised on her lips. "I would rather be doing other things."
Ellie had just started walking along side him when he told her to stay and she couldn't help but laugh. "Definitely an aspiring photographer, I think."

Everett shrugged a shoulder up. “I like photography a lot,” he admitted. “I just don’t know that there’s much future in it.” He knew for sure that was how his father’s side of the family felt about it. After all, he was a Quinn. Eliot had all but flown off the handle when Everett had announced his intentions to travel for a year instead of attend college and he had never expressed any interest in attending law school or taking over his father’s part of the law firm. While Everett wasn’t completely sure what he wanted to do, he knew it was in no way to follow in his father’s footsteps in any sense of the term.
He grinned at Ellie, “Either that or I’m just trying out the artsy thing to impress girls,” he joked, before smirking at her.
“What sort of things do you want to do?” he asked her curiously.

"Well, if it's just to impress girls, you may not want to let on to that. It loses its appeal once we know," she teased in response.
If she was entirely honest, she had no idea what she wanted to do. Though he was joking, she understood the appeal of doing something artsy, though maybe her reasons weren't to impress other girls. Ellie hadn't given the future much thought, as least not when she compared it with the plans that her parents had, or even the ones that she was sure Morgan had too. "I don't really know," she said a little wistfully, as though saying it out loud would actually give her some sort of inspiration. "When both of your parents are lawyers and your sister is kind of brilliant, it's kind of hard to do anything other than compare yourself to them, you know?" She gave a little shrug and looked down at the notebook in her hand for a second. "I guess I just know that I don't want to be a lawyer, or a doctor, or a teacher... I think I'd like to do something in the arts too. Maybe fashion, maybe graphic design, maybe I'll be a playwright."

Everett grinned at her, listening to her and noted a spark of rebellion in some of her comments that was familiar. Of course, his had been driven by something else entirely whereas it seemed hers was sourced in feeling like the black sheep. He understood it to a degree. "All three generations of men before me were lawyers," he nodded and shook his head. "I have absolutely no interest in practicing law."
"I get it though," he assured her gently. "You've got tons of time to figure it out, hell I haven't even figured it out yet," he chuckled. "Though part of me does that on purpose just to irritate the folks at home," he admitted.
