If someone would have told Brandon Finn two years ago that he would have been where he was at the moment, he was sure that he would have dismissed them, continued to drink whatever he had chosen as his signature drink that evening, and would have continued flirting with whatever woman he had been amusing himself with. But now - now things were much different than he had expected them to be, and he honestly had no complaints at all. It had seemed like everything had happened in quick succession since Amber came back into his life, from the moment that they started dating again, to his confession of loving her, to the sudden appearance of their son. All the while he knew that this was the woman that he was someday going to marry and spend the rest of his life with. It had been nearly painful to wait for the right moment to propose, but finally, he had determined that Christmas was going to be the perfect time for them to truly start a new chapter together. Though he couldn't say that it would have all turned out quite as perfectly as it had without the help of Cassidy Miller.
And now, with Amber by his side, they finally had the occasion to celebrate their own engagement. It seemed like it was more than a decade in the making and as such he couldn't help but grin over at his fiance, hoping that she was enjoying the moment as much as she could. He knew that for every moment that he had hoped that they would eventually have been in this situation, she had been hoping for it as well.
"It's a little weird to be at our own engagement party," he confessed. Over the last couple of years they had gotten so used to being at everyone else's engagement party that it seemed surreal that it was finally their turn. "But I can't say that I mind."

Amber was ecstatic to be celebrating her engagement to Brandon. Granted, since Christmas it had been something she'd celebrated a little bit every day. Deciding that they would take a faster route and get married that fall, everything when it came to planning her wedding was a whirlwind - especially while they also took care of their son. Still, there were few things that Amber loved as much as Brandon and Brody, but one of the things in the top ten was being the center of attention. So tonight was really a wonderful night.
Amber smiled up at Brandon, taking a sip from her drink and then leaning up to kiss him on the cheek. "It's a bit unreal," she admitted. "But I'm glad we're finally here." She cast a glance over at her shoulder at their son, dressed up for their engagement party and seated in a high chair while a few of the girls from work fawned over him. She smiled happily, "He's going to be a little charmer when he grows up," she said decidedly. "We might very well be in trouble."

It was odd to think that there was a time not so long ago where the thought of all of this might have driven Brandon to do something he would later regret. After years of playing a back-and-forth game with his relationship with Amber, he would have considered that some old habits would die hard. Though, he supposed that what it ultimately came down to was the fact that he knew now what his life looked like without her. It was a life full of working too much, of dating too many unsatisfactory women, and one where he constantly wondered if things would have been different.
He figured that what made this entire evening feel more surreal than anything else was the fact that he had no fears, no hesitations about any of it. It was more than likely the fact that he couldn't imagine actually marrying anyone else. It also didn't hurt that he was already so in love with what their little family had become with the introduction of Brody to the mix.
Looking over at their son, he grinned and nodded his agreement to Amber. "We knew that was going to happen before he was even born. I wouldn't be surprised if he had his first girlfriend by kindergarten at this rate," he teased.
After nearly a year of marriage, it had finally happened. Adam was sure that he was never going to forget the heartbreak that Riley had expressed upon finding out that it was going to be difficult for them to get pregnant. He knew then that he would have done anything for her to help them get through it, no matter how much time or money it took to make things happen. Not long after the holidays, it had. The excitement and happiness that had quickly taken over had been unprecedented and it took everything in him not to immediately start telling anyone and everyone who would listen. Considering how difficult it had been to get to that point, how fragile the situation was, and taking Riley's own hesitations and concerns into account, they had waited to say anything to anyone.
It was almost more exciting to have this little secret, he realized. Something that was just between himself and Riley for now. But that hadn't stopped him from feeling ridiculously overjoyed, even as he knew that they were going to have to attend Brandon and Amber's engagement party.
Smiling at his wife, he took her hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. "Where to first?" he questioned her.

Amber let out a low chuckle, eying their son again. She beamed up at Brandon, leaning up to kiss him quickly. "He's going to take after his father," she mused, looking up at her fiancé and lifting her eyebrows with a laugh even as she heard her son giggle and babble at her co-workers as they gushed over how cute he was. She could hardly believe that she was here - engaged to Brandon, raising their son. While once upon a time she hadn't seen it quite going this way, she was glad that it had. The long road that they had taken and their tendency to do things out of order was just find with her.
Riley Tyler smiled happily at Adam. She was glad to have a night out with her husband and to celebrate Brandon and Amber's engagement. Despite the tension between Adam and the other couple, Riley had always worked so well with Brandon and he had become one of her closest friends so she was pleased to help them celebrate the fact that they'd finally gotten engaged. Plus, she was also armed with the knowledge that after some trying, that she and Adam were going to be able to start a family. At first, when they'd elected to try IVF, she'd been worried about what would have happened if it didn't work. After finding out that they had managed to get pregnant, Riley had still wanted to keep it between the two of them until she was further along. Still, as she looked around the party and spotted baby Brody in his high chair, she couldn't help but be a bit excited about the entire thing. "We can go say hi to them," she suggested. "And see how Brody's doing," she added, finding the idea of spending time with another baby highly appealing and good practice for their own.

Brandon grinned, though he wasn't entirely convinced that it was a particularly good thing that Amber was sure that Brody was going to take after him. There were some things that he truly hoped that their son never inherited, chief among them being his fear of commitment. If there was any regret that he had about tonight and about everything that had brought them to this point, he regretted that it had taken them this long to get to this point. But there was one thing that he and Amber had already agreed on, they had done things in their own way and in their own order, and with Brody and now being engaged, it just seemed that they had done things a little backwards of tradition.
Adam watched as Riley's attention was drawn to Brody Finn, laughing softly as he assumed that she was using the availability of a baby as a way to give themselves a little test, or a momentary practice run for what it would have been like when it was their turn. Though, at this point, he was well aware of the fact that their turn was going to be a bit different. "Sure," he agreed, "Let's go congratulate them again and then we can go say hello to the baby too."

Riley nodded, tugging on her husband's hand. She smiled brightly up at him before turning her attention to the couple of the hour. "Congratulations you two!" she greeted them happily. "Amber, you look beautiful," she complimented before smiling at her and also at Brandon. "And you're okay," she teased. While she and Amber had never been exceptionally close, Riley's friendship with Brandon made her truly excited for the couple. Even though she hadn't been close with them, nearly everyone had known about Amber Jacobs and Brandon Finn. She thought it was about time that the two of them finally got their act together.
Amber turned to the other couple, smiling at them. "Hi! Thank you for coming," she told them sincerely. She nodded at Riley and Adam. "I'm glad you could make it," she told them honestly. She was about to say more when she heard Brody fussing behind her. "One second," she laughed, turning to shoo her coworkers away and lift her son out of the high chair. "Hi, little man, what's up?" she asked him sweetly as she walked him over to the others again. She laughed at the way he immediately looked up at Brandon and babbled at him. "Can you say hi to Riley and Adam?" she asked the baby. "Say hi - except don't, because your first word is going to be 'mama,'" she grinned.

Brandon's friendship with Riley hadn't been something that he had ever expected, and he certainly hadn't been expecting it to become anything more than just a loose friendship based on nothing more than the fact that they worked together and had business in common from that standpoint. The truth was, her obvious lack of taste in men aside, he found that he liked her company more than he thought he might have. "Thanks," he said a little sarcastically, shaking his head at her teasing.
When Amber opted for a nicer greeting, he refrained from teasing her in return. "Thank you both for coming," he echoed Amber's appreciation for them. It was the reappearance of Brody in her arms that made him smile in earnest at his son. "What's going to happen if he says something else first?"
