Riley bustled around the apartment excitedly, waiting for Madison to arrive. After a couple of months of keeping it to themselves, Riley and Adam had agreed to slowly start telling people that she was pregnant. With all of the effort that had gone into trying, Riley had not wanted to make it widely known - but still wanted to share it with their families - especially now that it seemed that they were pregnant with twins and so she was already starting to show. In addition to telling Adam's parents and her father, Riley knew that the only other person she wanted to tell was her best friend over a decade and a half.
Madison and Riley had been best friends for so long that Riley honestly considered the brunette a sister. Even when college separated them, Maddy was her first phone call when she needed a friend. Even though Maddy had her own sister, Riley knew the feeling was mutual. And so Riley had told Adam that she simply had to share their news with Madison before inviting her friend over for lunch.
Now the excitement to share her news was bubbling over as she worked around the kitchen, preparing them a light lunch.

Madison had been so excited that Riley had called to invite her for lunch. In the whirlwind that had been her fall wedding, the subsequent honeymoon, the holidays, and everything in between, it seemed like she had barely had a moment to catch up with her best friend. She was dying to know what was going on in Riley's life, how it felt to be approaching one year of marriage with her own husband, she couldn't wait to gush over what her own first few months of marriage had been like and how amazing it had been to be part of Cooper and Melanie's life, and even what it was like to have become a step-mother to the adorable little girl.
It seemed like there was far too much to get through in just one lunch meeting and so she had determined that she wasn't going to let that much time go between actual girls' days again, determined to pencil it into their schedules that they needed to resume their weekly meetings, even if it was just to grab a quick cup of coffee.
Knocking eagerly at the door, she couldn't seem to stop smiling. She hadn't realized how much she had needed actual set aside time with her friend instead of just the couple of moments they were able to see each other at events and other social gatherings. "Hi!" She greeted brightly, wrapping Riley into a hug the moment the redhead opened the door.

Riley beamed at Madison, quickly hugging her friend back and ushering her inside. "Hi, it's so good to see you," she smiled. Surely in the time since the brunette's wedding they'd seen each other - but with the holidays and Riley's increasingly hectic work schedule as she grew her consulting agency, they had really gone far too long with out some girl time. "Do you want something to drink? I'm still finishing lunch up, but it will be ready soon. Tell me everything - how are Cooper and Melanie doing?" Riley asked.
She gestured for Maddy to follow her into the kitchen and smiled. Sometimes, as she wandered around her home when she wasn't at work, she found herself still a bit floored by the size. She could have fit three of her childhood apartments in this one now. But she had quickly come to think of it as home and she was sure when the babies came along it would seem all that much less large. She then briefly thought about child-proofing and got nervous. She quickly pushed the thoughts away and smiled at her friend as she went back to fixing lunch.

"Water would be great," he told her friend, following her into the kitchen. It seemed like in the last year they had really come a long way from where they had been before, with Riley settling into her career and her life with Adam. It had been endearing to see her friend find happiness after everything that she had gone through, from her first failed engagement and the loss of what was sure to have been a promising career in politics, and then everything that had happened with her mother, it made Maddy so happy to see everything that was going well in her best friend's life. She knew that Riley and Adam were still trying desperately for a family but she was convinced that it would happen when it happened, and in the meantime the redhead seemed to absolutely glow from everything else as well.
"Cooper and Melanie are great," Maddy grinned brightly at the thought of them. She had realized long before the wedding how in love with those two she was, but something about how they had all seamlessly had become a family had made her feel like she was fallen just more in love with them both. "I was thinking of maybe seeing if Melanie wanted to start dance classes soon, I was about her age when I started and I just thought it might be fun for her to have a little hobby." She shrugged, still smiling at her friend. "And Cooper and I were thinking of going on another trip soon. I don't know, that man had the travel bug, I think." Laughing, she turned the questions on Riley, "What about you? What are you and Adam up to lately?"

Riley retrieved Madison a cold water bottle, cracking it open before handing it to her. "Would you like ice?" she asked. She smiled at Madison. It was hard to believe that Maddy had quickly become essentially a wife and mother in a whirlwind of a year. Riley was so happy for Maddy. She'd liked Cooper well enough as a friend and business associate before introducing him to Maddy, but things had worked out between the two better than Riley could have ever hoped. "Hobbies are good, I bet Melanie would really like that. I always wish I'd taken a dance class when I was younger," she nodded. Riley wondered if she had little girls if they would take dance and whether or not they would like ballet or tap. She suddenly pictured two little girls in tutus.
When Maddy asked how she and Adam had been, Riley smiled a bit and looked at Madison. "We've both been doing really well lately. Just work and - well, we actually have a bit of news," she said slowly. She licked her lips nervously and then smiled brightly at her friend.

Maddy shook her head, dismissing the need for ice. When it came down to it she supposed that she really had Riley to thank for the path that her life had taken. It had been Riley who had all but forced her on Cooper at a campaign fundraiser what seemed like a lifetime ago. It was so strange to think that their entire relationship had started simply because of one meeting where they had discussed starting a little library for Melanie. She nodded at Riley, "I was politely asked to leave my dance class when I was little - they quickly realized I had no rhythm and had decided that it was probably best for everyone if I found a different hobby," she grinned and gave a little shrug. "I started reading a lot because of that so I guess it worked out pretty well for me in the end." She laughed.
At the mention of news, the brunette's eyes widened and she surveyed her friend for a moment, hoping that the news she was about to share was the news that she knew that Riley had been hoping for since she had gotten married. "You do? What is it?"

Riley smiled at her. Hearing her friend recount her days in dance class, Riley thought it sounded perfectly like her best friend. "I used to dance around the apartment, but my dad never had time to take me to dance classes between work and school," she shrugged and smiled happily at her friend. When it came time to share the news, Riley laughed almost nervously. "Adam and I...are pregnant..." she trailed off for a moment before beaming. "With twins."
"You're going to be Aunt Maddy times two," she told her friend excitedly.

Maddy froze, playing her friend's statement over in her head a couple of times before she felt like she could appropriately respond. And even then she was sure that she wasn't putting together a coherent thought. "What?" She asked incredulously. "You are? Are you serious? Oh my God, Riley." She rushed to embrace her friend again but hesitated before she wrapped her arms around her, suddenly aware of the fact that her friend's body now encompassed three people and therefore, might have been much more fragile than she had originally thought.
"Twins? That's insane and wonderful. Oh my God," she couldn't seem to stop repeating that. "When do you find out the gender? I want to know if I need to start buying adorable little dresses or little suit outfits. Or both!" She couldn't help herself, she wrapped herself tightly around her friend. "Are you thrilled? You should be thrilled."

Riley laughed when Maddy seemed to hesitate before hugging her. She hugged her back tightly and grinned as Maddy seemed to ask her about a million questions at light speed. "We find out soon," she told her and nodded happily. "We're just taking everything one step at a time," she admitted. "We tried to get pregnant right after we got married but we had some...problems with it. That's why we've been waiting to tell people, too. We only just told my dad the other week," she laughed softly. Taking a long deep breath, she smiled at her friend and hugged her, pulling back to smile up at her excitedly. "I'm really thrilled. Adam and I both are."

She really couldn't stop smiling at her friend, she wasn't sure that she had ever been so excited or happy for anyone in her entire life, but then again she also couldn't think of anyone who might have been more deserving of good news that Riley Tyler. "Twins?" Maddy echoed, still stunned by the news. "That's so amazing. Have I really emphasized how happy I am for you?" she laughed, knowing that her enthusiasm had probably been a bit much already. "I'm sorry, I'm just so excited. Oh my gosh, Melanie is going to love to have more little friends to play with," she added.
