Riley Tyler was knowledgable in many things - politics, law, economics, and other social sciences. She had a penchant for American and British Literature. Math might not have been her strong suit, but she knew the probability of her getting pregnant before their IVF treatments had been low. And Riley wasn't at all a whiz at science and medicine, so when the doctors told her that she had to start taking things very easy earlier than she thought she might in the course of her pregnancy, she couldn't really argue. She didn't have to like it, though.
While in the apartment, waiting for Adam to return home, Riley was balancing her laptop on the counter and her phone between her shoulder and ear while she worked on dinner. Not one to fully understand the concept of bedrest and taking things easy, she figured as long as she was home and not running around the city from meeting to meeting was enough.
When Adam walked in the door, she was still on her call being updated by a member of her staff. "No, you can't do that. You can't circulate an internal memo, those never stay internal for long. You're going to have to meet with the CEO, CFO, and COO. You need to conference me in on it though, so I want the preliminary numbers in my hands tomorrow. You have one of the staff members bring them to my door themselves. I've got to go though." She hung the phone up and smiled up at her husband. "Hey you, come here and taste it, it's missing something and I don't know what."

Adam looked at his wife curiously for a moment, not sure if he was more interested in the fact that she seemed to seamlessly transition from work to home life, or the fact that she still hadn't been able to detach herself from her work. The further that they got into her pregnancy, the more he felt like he was growing frustrated at the fact that she didn't seem to be able to turn her phone off. It had been a slight problem early on into their relationship, but he thought that they had been able to move past that and that her priorities had transitioned. Now that they were having children, he would have thought that she would have been more willing to take it easy. The fact that it hadn't been easy for them to get pregnant in the first place was probably more than enough reason for her to have been willing to curl up on the couch and binge watch her favorite television shows.
He was a little disappointed, and maybe a little surprised, that she hadn't been willing to take it easy just yet. For the moment, however, he was more than willing to abandon his concerns and smiled back at her before crossing into the kitchen and kissing her. "Hi," he greeted her. "I'm going to guess that your day was busy?" he teased, tasting the bite of dinner that she had offered him. "I think it's good," he added.

Riley kissed him happily and then took another bite of dinner, sighing softly. "I guess it'll do. Maybe what I'm experiencing is pregnancy cravings," she said, looking down at her stomach. "Is that it? Is it you two?" Taking a breath, she shook her head at Adam.
"Not a busy day," she insisted. "More like trying to keep busy," she explained. "Do you know how many steps it is to walk the perimeter of this apartment? I got exhausted less than half way through and then I called for a status update, read through some very boring - not at all stressful reports, and took one call while I was making dinner. See? Not that busy."

Adam smiled, also looking at her stomach where it was becoming increasingly obvious that their twins were growing. The excitement and joy that he continued to feel about the prospect made him want to do nothing more than to dedicate all of his own time and effort to getting the apartment ready for their new arrivals, though it was something that he wasn't sure that Riley had really let herself really enjoy just yet. It seemed like it was hard for her to separate her work life from their personal life, even as they got closer to her due date.
"Maybe you should take it easy," he suggested. "You do have two babies that could probably benefit from their mom taking it easy for a little bit." He tried to broach the subject as carefully as possible considering the fact that she had gotten frustrated with him in the past for advising her to take it easy. "I just think that maybe you should consider slowing down as those two get ready to make their first appearance."

Riley sighed softly and looked at Adam. "This is me taking it easy," she told him before turning to get some plates for their dinner. "I know - I know that I have to take it easy, and I'm trying but I'm also just going a bit nuts." The truth was that she was anxious. While she was thrilled to be starting a family with Adam, the fact that they were having twins was increasingly becoming a stressful fact for her. She had always wanted to be a mother but did not know where to start. Her own mother had never been a constant in her life and the idea of being responsible for not one - but two lives made her nervous and had her doubting herself.
Part of the reason she was still trying to keep busy was to prepare for when everything else except focusing on her family took a complete backseat. "We should do some test runs for the hospital," she mentioned offhandedly. "Some plans - what if you're at work? What if it's 2 in the morning? What if there's an accident on the street? Should we just talk about inducing a few days before my due date?" she asked.
