Hi, Cooper. This is Madison Walker, I was just returning your call. I hope now's a good time to talk about book-related things?

Hey! Yes, Madison. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Now is actually a perfect time to talk about book things. Now I've got a couple of questions for you, but first I just want to say, before you refer to me to someone else with your company, that I'm just kind of bouncing ideas around and was hoping to get your opinion in an unofficial capacity. You know? So that I don't sound like a complete dunce.

No - it's not a problem. I'm happy to help in any way that I can. What kind of questions do you have?

Okay. So my daughter is turning four in about two months. And I want to throw this kid the biggest bash that she'll never remember, because who really remembers their fourth birthday? Except I'm overcompensating for being a single dad, and so an extravaganza is in order and I swear this starts to do with books in a minute...she doesn't need any toys. I mean, I swear to you Madison if I trip over one more toy on a bad morning that it's going to be raining toys onto Park Avenue from my window. Now, what I was thinking was getting everyone who comes to this thing to bring a book and I could set up a donation with a library or a not-for-profit, make a big donation in her name. I don't know, I want her to be eleven and severely embarrassed because I had a wing of a library named after her when she was four and all she really wanted was an Easy Bake Oven. What do you think?

I think it sounds like a great idea. She might not realize it now, or even at eleven like you said, but some day she's going to realize that she received an amazing gift for her fourth birthday. We do a lot of volunteer-based fundraising here, at Harper Collins, so I'm sure I could figure out a way that we might be able to help coordinate everything for you. It's possible that we might even be able to donate some books for the cause as well. I don't know if it's what you're looking for but I know that we have quite an extensive collection of children's books that we would be happy to include as a gift for her now as well. It's really up to you! But it sounds like a wonderful idea. I would love to help out, if you need any help. I'm sorry, I just rambled on for longer than I should have - I just get excited about books. I'm weird, I'm sorry. But you said that you had questions? Was there something else that you were thinking?

That would be great, I mean if you think you guys could help out I think that would be really something else. And you're not weird, I get it. I'm weird- I get excited about real estate holdings and the stock market. Or maybe I'm just boring. Anyway, I appreciate that. And I appreciate your thoughts on it and any ideas you might have to make it better. I also don't really have any other pertinent questions. Sometimes I start off thinking I do and it turns out I just need to talk it out. Unless, I mean, and I get it if you're busy. But...I could use some help planning this. In general. It's my first time planning a birthday party for her on my own and...would you mind if I reached out to you now and then for some advice?

Oh! Sure. Yeah, like I said, I would love to help. I can't say that I know much about four-year-olds, but if you ever just need a sounding board feel free to call me. Actually, do you want my cell phone number? Just that way in case something comes up and I'm out of the office you can reach me. It's 212-664-7665. I'll start looking into what kind of possibilities we have for helping out with these kinds of things and I'll let you know as soon as I learn something.
