Cassidy Miller loved New York City. The fast paced living, the eclectic mix of people, the endless options for nightlife. It was the city that never slept. And as a girl who grew up in a small town in Wisconsin that might as well have been asleep all the time in comparison, she embraced the change. Something - or rather someone - else that Cassidy loved was Amber Jacobs. The blonde had believed in Cassidy since day 1 of her internship at TeenVogue, so much so that shortly after Cassidy had unceremoniously left her internship and realized what a big mistake it was - Amber had come to her with a job offer. The woman had proven to be like a mix between a cool older sister and a really fashionable fairy godmother to Cassidy and because of that Cassidy was loyal.
And that was why she found herself at Finn Industries because suddenly, Cassidy's closest friend and the amazing metropolitan lifestyle she fed off of was hanging precariously in the balance. "Hi, I'm Cassidy Miller, I don't have an appointment," she nodded to the young woman behind the desk. She was momentarily distracted, though, when a very handsome gentleman walked by in a very well-tailored suit. Her eyes shamelessly followed him as he walked down the hall, going as far as to lean back to continue looking after him until she wobbled in her stilettos and cleared her throat, ignoring the judgmental gaze from the receptionist. "Like I was saying, I'm Cassidy Miller. I don't have an appointment, but I need to see Brandon Finn. And maybe that guy that just walked by, if you wanted to give me his name, marital status and phone number..." The other woman didn't crack a smile and Cassidy knew she was fighting an uphill battle.
"I'm sorry, miss, but if you don't have an appointment."
"Listen, I'm not some weird groupie stalking him after seeing his picture in the Business Section, I need to talk to him. If you could just pick up the phone, give him a little ring, tell him Cassidy is here. I'm his girlfriend's assistant - more than your average assistant really, I'd like to think I'm really more of an indispensable resource - a sorcerer of scheduling, a wizard of the workplace, a confidant, a friend, and kind of like a superhero." Cassidy trailed off and frowned, "Can you call him to let him know I'm here?"

The increased workload had been expected, he hadn't been expected the overwhelming urge to procrastinate on reading through the pile of paperwork that had been accumulating on his desk. Brandon had forced himself to buckle down and had attempted to just get through his email inbox, but it had been hours now and he wasn't sure that he had really made any progress at all. It had been like this for days now and he had really started questioning how his father had been able to do it for so long without needing to just delegate the majority of his day. It hadn't been fair to Amber that just when they started to get used to their new living situation, he suddenly became absent in their day to day. He hated to admit how much he was starting to miss it.
Sighing, he turned back to his inbox and started typing out a reply to the next email in the queue. But it was no use, he had no desire to get any work done at the moment and instead contemplated grabbing his cell phone to type out a message to Amber instead. So when his office line rang, he answered it thankfully.
"Mr. Finn," his secretary began, "There's a Cassidy Miller here for you."
"Tell her she can come in. I should have a little bit of time to meet with her."

Cassidy smiled broadly when she was told to go into Brandon's office by his secretary, she slipped into the office and closed the door behind her. In the back of her mind, she was eternally grateful that she actually was more than the average assistant. If her job consisted of answering phone calls, filing paper, and responding to emails, she would probably have thrown herself out of her apartment window by now. Forgetting about the secretary entirely, she smiled at Brandon. "Hi Brandon!" she exclaimed, dropping down into the chair opposite her desk. She surveyed his desk and the papers on it, eyebrow ticking up.
She prized herself on being an observant person. She knew, from passing comments, that Brandon had been busier at work. She knew that Amber missed him and was trying not to make too big of a deal about it. And she knew that there were a lot of whispers about a job opening in Paris, that her boss had tried to secretly schedule an appointment with her doctor a couple of weeks ago and that today Amber had gotten sick just before her 11 o'clock meeting. Cassidy wasn't dumb either, but she thought maybe she would just ease into things, get her favorite couple moving in the right direction.
"You could use a wonder assistant, I should learn how to clone myself," she joked before taking a deep breath.

He smiled at her enthusiastic greeting and turned his monitor off, moving some paperwork out of the way. He liked Cassidy well enough, she had proved to be a valuable asset in Amber's job as well as in as a friend to her. All things considered when it came to Cassidy's relationship with Amber, he was glad that Amber had someone like her to have kept her company in California, and he was glad that she had her now. "Are you offering to find me an assistant?" He questioned, uncertain exactly what she was doing at his office.
Leaning back in his chair, he wondered if she was here to yell at him for not spending enough time with Amber, for taking on a larger workload than he should have when he should have been focused on making his relationship with Amber work. After ten years of having not been together, he felt like he had a lot of time to make up for and he was starting to feel like this inevitable promotion had just come at an inopportune time.

Cassidy shook her head, "I mean you'll never find one as awesome as me. I can ask around though. Because all of us awesome assistants, we get together and meet once a month and talk about the people we assist. There's a handshake. I'd show you but then I'd have to kill you." Cassidy smiled, trying to find the best way to go about saying what she felt she needed to say. "There was this guy outside when I was waiting for the keeper of the gate to let me in your office," she gestured with her hand. "He was tall and had dark hair and a blue suit, is he...do you keep track of if your employees are single? Should I ask your H.R. person about that?"
Sighing, she knew she should really stop wasting his time, so she leaned forward. "Amber didn't send me here. She doesn't know I'm here. I think if she did, I'd actually get fired - not the fake kind she does every other day of the week. But I think that unless you're working on something that absolutely cannot wait until tomorrow morning, you should go home and talk to her." She chewed on her lip. "And I know that in the chain of command on Earth that I, in no way, am in a position where I tell you what to do, but I just wanted to come by and strongly suggest that."
She fidgeted a bit in her chair. "You need someone to come in here and decorate this office one day. That I can probably actually do one weekend."

He narrowed his gaze at her in confusion for a moment, trying to figure out if she really came all the way to his office just to ask him about some man that she had seen in the hallway. Obviously, that would be highly illogical, especially if she had actually just seen him for the first time, but he had still been struggling to figure out what could possibly be so important that she needed to bother him during the day. "I have absolutely no idea who you're talking about, Cassidy. But I would be happy to figure it out if it's that important to you."
She carried on and he watched her with interest as she explained that Amber had neither sent her nor was aware of her presence here. "Go home?" he questioned, wondering if they were on the cusp of the argument of having not spent enough time with Amber recently. "I still have a lot that I need to get done today, but I'll make sure to make it up to Amber soon." He did know that he needed to do something nice for her, take her out for the evening or rent a variety of movies for them to have at at-home date night. As for the office, he shook his head. "My office is fine," he told her. "Don't worry about it."

Cassidy waved off the idea of him finding out who she was talking about, it wasn't as important. Instead she shook her head adamantly, "I know you're busy. I wouldn't be here if I didn't know you were busy. It's not about making up for the fact that you had to work late," she insisted before taking a breath and nodding a bit more calmly. "Listen, I'm overstepping my bounds way more than I normally would right now, but Amber's more than just my boss - you know? And I'm all about you two, I think you guys are great. But something's bothering her, and it doesn't have to do with you working late."
"And she hasn't told me about it. Sure, I have my suspicions, but even if she had, I wouldn't tell you what it was, because I respect her trust more than that. But I think that maybe she's not telling you what it is because she knows you're busy." She pursed her lips. "I can't make you go talk to her or really even explain why I think it's important - but it's important enough that I think I'm risking my job in coming over here to tell you anything about it at all. So, I don't know, I think you should go home."

Brandon watched her for a moment, not only trying to determine exactly what she was hinting at when she said that it was something much more than just the fact that he had been working late. He certainly wasn't used to Amber keeping things from him, at least not recently. They had been much more open with each other in the last few months than they had ever been in their relationship. The last time they had been together they had been a lot more interested in playing games with each others emotions, from lying to cheating and everything in between.
"Okay," he said, nodding. "I can take off soon and head home." He sighed, looking down at the paperwork on his desk briefly. "Thank you for coming here to tell me." He paused for a moment. "Is everything okay with her?"

Cassidy felt almost relieved when Brandon said he'd go home, she shook her head. "If I were upset and Amber could do something to help me, she'd do it - she's done it. The least I can do is try to help her, right? You don't have to thank me."
At his question, she glanced away and shrugged a shoulder up. "I don't know, I think it kind of depends on how it goes when you go home and talk to her," she admitted. "Could you not tell her that I told you about this?" she asked. "I don't want her to get mad at me for...you know, bothering you or whatever."

He nodded, ensuring that he wasn't going to tell Amber about this conversation. "You're not bothering me," he told her truthfully. All things considered, she couldn't have picked a better time to stop by. He had been looking for an excuse to put off work for a bit longer, and this had given him the perfect opportunity to do so. Unfortunately, he was getting the feeling that he wasn't going to go home to things being exactly as they had always been, but he was uncertain on the particulars of it all. "But I'm not going to tell her about it, either way. Just give me a little bit to wrap things up here and I'll head home as soon as I can."
