All things considered, the last thing that Gwen Sullivan had expected to be doing upon moving to New York had been to be working as an errand girl. At least, that's how she felt she should sometimes classify her role as an executive administrative assistant. She hated to admit that it had been nearly a decade since she had moved to the city, and she still found herself making deliveries whether it was a coffee order or legal documents. And sure, she did it all with a smile, but the truth was that she would have much rather have been in a greater position of power. But for a girl from Rhode Island, she knew that she had to start somewhere. When she had just moved to the city for college, she had found herself working a part-time job as an assistant, just trying to make some extra money on the side. She hadn't realized that after college it would have been a lot easier for her to continue working as an assistant than it was for her to find a job in the business world. And so, as long as she felt that she was still climbing the corporate ladder, and as long as she could afford her high-end apartment, she decided that it was good enough for now.
But that didn't mean that she had to like it. She had recently been hired on to work as the Executive Administrative Assistant for the new head of Finn Industries and had already realized several things about her new role. The first being that her new boss was not only younger than some of the other bosses she had in the past, he was also significantly more attractive. The second was that he was more than content to have her do his dirty work, such as dropping off a stack of legal documents to the company's attorney, Eliot Quinn.
Walking up to the secretary, she gave a small polite smile, "Hello, I'm here on behalf of Brandon Finn of Finn Industries. I have some legal documentation that he wanted me to make sure made it to Eliot Quinn."

Eliot happened to be walking out to speak with his secretary about something when he heard his name. Looking at the young woman in question, he smirked a bit. Maybe not everything about Brandon Finn had changed, he thought to himself. “I’m Eliot,” he greeted her. “Why don’t you come into my office, just in case there’s something I need to send back.”
“Would you like something to drink? Coffee, tea, water – I think we have soda somewhere. Rose, do we have soda somewhere?”
“I’m sure I could track some down, Mr. Quinn.”
He smirked at his own secretary, “That’s entirely up to Ms. … I’m so sorry, I didn’t catch your name,” he said to Gwen, turning on the charm the best he could as he showed her towards his office.

"Gwen," she supplied, smirking in response. She knew very little about Mr. Quinn, having heard next to nothing from her own boss about what her instructions were in dropping off the paperwork, let alone what the paperwork was really all about. But what she did know was what those looks from men generally meant, and she relished it. In fact, she had found that the way that she looked had come in quite handy as she continued to work higher and higher up into companies, whether it was just a non-committal flirtation with a boss, or something more.
She followed him into his office, "I'm quite all right, actually. Thank you, though."

Eliot grinned at Gwen, settling into his seat and gesturing for her to take one opposite his desk. He reviewed the paperwork that had been sent over, perusing them easily before he looked up at her. “How are you liking working for Brandon?” he asked. “He’s a helluva guy, really. We’ve been friends for quite some time now. I imagine he would have normally brought these over himself, but unfortunately he’s been kept on a short leash for the past few months,” he mused.
He made a few notes in the margins of one document before looking up at her. “But he’d better be a good boss,” he joked. “You know, if you ever run into any problems over there as the outside counsel, you’re more than welcome to come to me about anything you might need.” He flashed her a smile.

She took the seat across from him, crossing her legs and gently smoothing her pencil skirt down over a patch of exposed skin. Gwen watched him look through the paperwork for a moment, considering that if opportunities continued to be presented through her employment at Finn Industries, then she figured she was going to quite enjoy her new role. All things considered, running errands and finding herself in the office off someone who had declared himself a friend of her boss could ultimately pay off in the long run. "It's been really great," she said softly, trying not to fixate on what he said about Brandon Finn being on a short leash. She smiled appreciatively at him, "Thank you for the offer, but like I said, it's been really great so far."

He leaned back in his chair a bit, smiling at him. "Well, I'm glad. You know, since I help represent the company I always like to make sure that the people there are happy. Happy workers do the best work," he nodded. "In fact, and I know you probably weren't expecting to show up and be put on the spot, but why don't you tell me what your goals are within the company - or even just personally. I'd like to see what I can do about helping you achieve that. I know all the tricks for climbing the ladder. Especially with where Brandon's concerned," he added teasingly. "Besides, with the company sending a new girl over to the wolves that work around here, that's got to be a vote of confidence on your behalf. The least I can do is reward that."

Gwen smirked softly, finding it perhaps a little interesting that he seemed to have touched on her particular love of climbing professional and personal ladders. She couldn't say that the thought hadn't crossed her mind to see how far she could get and what kind of opportunities would be presented by flirting with her boss. Though, she hadn't necessarily considered that as a long-term goal, unless of course Eliot knew something that might prove to be an advantage for her. "My goals are the same as anyone's are, really. I just want to continue to excel at my job, learn something new, and continue to move up the corporate ladder. If you have any tips or tricks, I'm more than willing to take notes, as it were."

Eliot grinned at Gwen, rising from his seat and walking around to the front of his desk, he leaned against it casually, crossing his ankles as he looked her over. "Oh, Gwen, I know all the tricks." He gestured around the office, "You don't get to where I am without learning all of them." He smirked at her. "I'm sure that I can help you get on top at Finn Industries, you might find some of methods a bit...atypical and unruly. But I promise, I'll get you exactly where you want to go one way or another. All you have to do is trust me and listen very carefully." He chuckled softly, tilting his head at her. "But something tells me that won't be a problem."

She refrained from making a remark about how much she would very much enjoy getting to the top of Finn, or really anyone else who might be able to help her accomplish her long-term goals of being rich, successful, and powerful. But as he continued, she wondered vaguely if he might already be on the same page with her. Gwen uncrossed her legs and straightened her skirt out over her thigh again. Biting at her lower lip briefly, she grinned at him. "Atypical and unruly happen to be my specialties. I'm listening."
The very least she could do, she considered, was to listen to what he had to say. Worst case scenario he would provide her with some insight that she found to be irrelevant and useless and then she would continue to limit herself to dropping off paperwork with his secretary and keeping their interactions strictly amusement-based only.

Eliot smirked at her, largely dropping all pretenses of just being a helpful new associate as his eyes raked over her body appreciatively. "Brandon and I are a lot alike," he stated plainly. "He may not want to admit it anymore with his new responsibilities and commitments, but it's fairly easy to appeal to men like us. I imagine should an ambitious, beautiful woman show that she's willing to do whatever it takes, everything would fall into place." He nodded. "I won't lie to you, Gwen, I miss having my friend around. He's been so terribly dull lately, I feel bad for him. Maybe we could both work together to reach a mutually beneficial goal."
He smirked at her. "Besides, I'm always looking to make new connections. I represent some of the most powerful men in the city and some of the largest companies in the country, if not globally. And I'm pretty sure that I can help you excel beyond your wildest dreams."

Gwen tilted her head to the side slightly, smirking at him for the fact that he had clearly just cut to the chase in terms of how he felt that she might best be able to progress in her career. She had to admit, she was quite pleased that he hadn't just provided her with the stereotypical "hard work and determination" line that she often seemed to get when people didn't quite understand her methods. But so far, she was getting the impression that Eliot understood her a bit better than she would have originally thought. What she had surmised was that if she played her part and used the old familiar tactics with her new boss, then a position with a bit more power would just so happen to fall into her lap.
She smirked back at him, "Mr. Quinn, connections like you are exactly what I love about this city," she admitted. "And you make it all seem so easy."

Eliot chuckled at Gwen. "I think that this is the beginning of quite the partnership, Gwen," he teased. "I'm sure I should let you get back to the office before they start wondering where you got off to. But come get a drink with me tonight, I'd be happy to show you how you can get everything you came to this city for," he ticked his eyebrow up and smirked at her. He thought that, even though he thought Gwen might be just what he needed to come between Amber and Brandon, didn't mean he couldn't have his own fun too. The majority of Eliot's relationships were with women who happened to be otherwise involved with clients. It just so happened none of them were ever on the same page as him - Gwen seemed like a breath of fresh air in that respect.

Gwen stood from her seat, deciding that he had made a fair point about needing to get back to the office before her boss started to wonder where she had disappeared to. "I might just have to take you up on that drink."
She turned and took a step toward the door before hesitating and turning back around to face him, smirk tugging at her lips. "It truly was a pleasure meeting you," she smiled at him, "If you have nothing that you need to send back to Mr. Finn, then I'll be sure to let him know that I left the documents in good hands. Please don't hesitate to give his office a call if you need anything else, or if there's anything wrong with the documents that you were provided."
