It had been a very strange last month or so, to say the very least. Olivia wasn't sure what she had expected to happen throughout the course of the late autumn months and into the early winter, but she certainly hadn't been expecting a sudden trip to England, followed by a very public outpouring of drama at the most recent charity event. What she had been even less prepared for was that she hadn't been involved in it at all. In fact, part of her lamented that very much. She had gotten very used to the way that her life had shaped into a routine of small games and petty drama, but the absence of it recently had also brought with it a surprising revelation; she didn't miss it nearly as much as she might have guessed. Parker, she figured, was very much to blame for that. Despite the fact that their history remained and that her feelings were very much the same as they had always been, she had quickly realized that this wasn't the same sort of relationship that they had been in before. Actually, it was unlike any relationship that she had had before. And that both frightened her and exhilarated her.
It was odd to find herself in a relationship where she was comfortable just being around him, comfortable spending time with him doing the most meaningless things like reading or writing out correspondences to her necessary acquaintances. It was odd that the desire to stifle the idleness with some sort of game or torment of their social circle was beginning to fade. Olivia just wasn't sure whether or not she really enjoyed that portion. She did feel idle, and she felt dull, but she was also sure that she was happy. And so now, even with him beside her and a dreadful novel in her hands, she felt contented. Perhaps still a bit boring, but not necessarily enough to cause drama just for the sake of her own amusement. "We've become dreadfully dull," she announced, closing the book and setting it on the table in front of her. "Amuse me."

Parker had been thinking a lot lately. More than he was maybe even comfortable with. The passing of his father had led to many questions about his own future and he simply wasn't sure what it was he wanted for sure. And yet there was an odd sense of comfort it knowing that he knew it involved Olivia. Despite the awkwardness of their trip home, having her beside him had eased some of the tension for him upon their return for his father's funeral and since returning, he'd been trying to focus on the present and future rather than dwelling on the past.
At her demand that she amuse him, he chuckled, leaning in to press his mouth gently against hers. "Dull?" he asked, taking mock offense. "I'll admit it's been different than it used to be, but I'd like to think it's been enjoyable," he reasoned. "I mean it can't all be exploiting pregnancies at charity events, I'm afraid I'm just not up to those games the way Eliot Quinn is." It reminded him that, despite their differences, he'd been meaning to reach out and congratulate Brandon - one business associate to another.

She wasn't sure if it was jealousy over having Eliot Quinn take the limelight in the creation of drama, or sympathy for her former classmates in being entangled it in, that she was feeling. Perhaps a bit of both, if she was being honest. It was certain that she was never going to be the biggest fan of Amber Jacobs, but she had to admit that did feel badly about the way that everything had come apart at the function. Not that she could say that it wasn't something that she would have never done because she most certainly would have liked to think that she had the cunning to pull something like that off, but she just felt much differently about it now. Olivia justified that it had to do with her recent societal detachment more so than her potential - what? Maturation? It seemed like an odd time for her brain to decide to change its thought process, what with being a full-grown adult at this point.
Grinning softly at Parker, she gave a small shrug. "Enjoyable, sure. But some people also like jogging and cooking and all of that nonsense so I think that enjoyable might be highly subjective." Some people, she justified, actually enjoyed making other people miserable so there was certainly that too. "I think the key is to really just find a compromise."

Parker sighed, wrapping his arm around her shoulders and tugging her close against him. "I'm sure I could find a way to entertain you. We could go out for a jog, or perhaps set out to make dinner," he teased bending down to kiss her softly. His fingers found her hair, absentmindedly playing with a few pieces of it as he contemplated just how much he liked just sitting beside her and being near her. He'd admittedly been surprised at how easy it was for him to fall into such habits with her, given that for some time he'd believed that their relationship was built on destroying others and sex. "You know, love, if I should keep boring you, I'd advise you to let me know. Because soon enough it'll be far too late, and I'll be rather intent on never letting go," he admitted slowly.
Kissing the top of her head, he took a breath, glancing at her, trying to gauge her reaction to the idea of forever with him.

She relaxed against him, admitting to herself that despite her protestations that they were dull, she did very much enjoy just sitting here with him for the moment. Olivia even admitted that she liked it when he teased her, even if she abhorred the idea of them running or doing something else she felt was outside of their personalities. Turning slightly so that she could look up at him, she pursed her lips, considering what he said about it quickly becoming too late for them to get out of this, whatever this was. "Never?" she echoed, contemplating what exactly that meant in terms of their future together. "How do you plan on going about ensuring that I can't get away?" It wasn't certain what response she was hoping to hear from him, whether or not he saw them doing things the cliched way, or if he had other plans. There as a small possibility, she added, that he wasn't even thinking of any of that at all and instead had just made an innocent enough remark.
The truth was, they had known each other for a long time, it wasn't unreasonable to think that they were still going to be part of each other's lives for quite some time still. Whether that was necessarily together or not, she wasn't sure, but she did know that she couldn't possibly think of a scenario where she wanted to go an extended period of time without speaking to him again.

Parker hummed thoughtfully, trying to think of how he might actually ensure it. "I think that depends entirely, Olivia," he admitted. In truth, he'd never fancied himself the marrying kind until he got to college and met his ex-fiancee, and even then there had been something off about it. He wasn't sure if he was the sort to get married, but if he could picture himself doing it with someone it was Olivia. Moreover, he'd been thinking about children ever since his father's funeral - propelled by the events of pregnant acquaintances or former business associates in custody battles. He wasn't sure where Olivia stood on that, but he'd realized in recent months that he really did hope to become a father one day.
"I love you," he told her gently. "I don't know what the next step is. If you want to stay just like this, that's fine with me," he nodded. "But I've been thinking a lot and I think that we might be pretty good at all of the stuff that could come after, too." Shaking his head, "I know it's not for everyone, so if that's not how you feel, I understand that too."

He seemed to be putting an awful lot of the decision making on her end of things, and Olivia wasn't sure she even knew what to do with it all. Despite some of the things that she had heard said about her, she did actually have a heart and it did care very much for the man that she was currently resting against. And being a woman, she had absolutely thought about what her life would have been like had she gotten married, or if she did some day. Marriage, she had decided, seemed like it would have been just a facade. The circles that she had been part of the last several years had been filled with more than one marriage that seemed to act as nothing more than an excuse for business connections and invitations to fancy parties. And yes, there were also a fair number of love matches, too. She didn't even have to look outside of their group of former classmates for that one. But, she quickly tried to change her thought process, she certainly did not want to start comparing her relationship to that of Brandon Finn and Amber Jacobs.
"I love you, too," she returned the sentiment easily. It was the projected timeline from here that she wasn't sure of. Telling him that she loved him was easy, but it didn't come with any instructions on what they were to do next. He was right, they could have stayed like this forever, and she probably would be entirely content by that. Or, they could follow perhaps a more traditional route, and she was sure she might be able to be content with that too. She just wasn't sure where either of the routes was going to eventually lead. Would staying like this mean that eventually one of them was going to want more? Would they become stagnant? But would taking a different step, a step toward marriage, would that make them both happy in the long run too?

Parker grinned at her, her return of the sentiment really the most he needed at the moment. He bent down to kiss her softly on the mouth, pulling her closer to him and smiling against her lips as he pulled away. "You and me, Liv," he nodded matter-of-factly. And that was the part he was most certain of. He didn't want to push her towards the traditional route if it was something she might not be comfortable with and at this point, as long as the two of them both knew how they felt about each other that was all he needed to know. Let things with work and his family be uncertain and chaotic, but Liv had been a constant in his life for a long time now in her own way.
"Think you'll ever really get bored of me?" he asked teasingly.

Liv laughed softly and smirked at him, "Absolutely. But I think I can endure." It was probably the truth too, she realized. Despite having thought that perhaps something more traditional would eventually become stagnant or boring, the truth was that as long as she had Parker by her side, the entire thing seemed much more enjoyable. Truly, it all became much more comforting to think that if she was going to be the type to settle down in some way that it would be with him.
She kissed him softly as though punctuating her own realization. "Anything after this," Liv told him slowly, as though still trying to dissect her own feelings on the matter, "That's entirely up to you. I'm certainly not the type to go around making grand gestures, and so if you ever decide that you want something more than just this, then that's your decision to make. Just know that there's a good possibility that if you wanted to ask me a particular question, I might not be able to say no to you." For whatever reason, coming right out and saying that she was open to the idea of getting engaged and some day getting married seemed much more difficult to say. "If there's any chance that you think you'll find me terribly dull in the future, now's your chance to get out of it."
