It had been one of those weird weeks where everything just seemed to work out the way that Brody Finn had been hoping. He had recently been made aware that his parents were going to be out of the Penthouse for a night or two for reasons that he was sure that he didn't even want to think about, and with school starting in just a few days, it had seemed to make the most sense that he threw a sort of "end of summer" party. Maybe it was cliched, and maybe his laid back and understanding parents weren't necessarily going to approve, but he just felt like he needed to do something to kick off the start of his senior year. This was the year that things were going to change, and this, he knew, had the potential to be his last year at home and even in the city. He had crossed through the crowd of people that had now accumulated in his apartment to mix himself a drink while he thought of that thought. There were a lot of things that he was sure that he was going to miss soon, from the comforts of home and the ease of school, but also the people that he had here.
Taking a drink from his glass he caught sight of Morgan Tyler and her sister Ellie, grinning at them. For as long as he could remember, the Tyler girls had been part of his life. And while he liked Ellie well enough, it had been his friendship with Morgan that had become the one that he was the most fond of. She had quickly become his best friend and he was sure that once he was in college he was going to miss their study sessions. Actually, he was sure that he was going to miss a lot of things about her. Or rather all of his friends. Deciding that he might as well bring over a couple of drinks to the girls, he mixed together two more and carried them over to them.
"Here," he said, passing a glass to both Ellie and Morgan. "Ready for school to start?"
Ellie took the drink from him and took a large sip from the glass. Hearing Brody's question she rolled her eyes, "Ugh, no. I just wish summer would last year round. I didn't get the love-of-studying gene that seems to run in my family," she added, nudging her sister.

Morgan wasn't a party person. In fact, if anyone other than Brody Finn had been hosting the party, she was pretty sure she wouldn't have even bothered to show up. Sitting beside her sister, she watched Ellie socialize for a while in a way that seemed so effortless. She envied her sister a lot in that way. She fidgeted slightly until she spotted Brody approaching, she took the drink and looked down on it, pursing her lips and sniffing it.
She smiled gently at her sister, shaking her head. "I heard that it was actually a learned trait for dad," she pointed out before turning to Brody. "I'm actually not as excited this year," she admitted. Normally, Morgan was thrilled for school to start. Her backpack was ready to go by mid-August and even her own parents found her appreciation of the school supply aisle to be slightly alarming. But this year was different. This year was her junior year - which meant SATs and things she'd been preparing for her entire life. But it was Brody's senior year, so the start of school just meant the start of a countdown until he left for college.
Still, she plastered on a smile and then took a tentative sip of her drink.

Ellie shrugged, "Learned or not, I still didn't get it." Taking another drink from her glass she looked between her sister and Brody for a second, shaking her head softly. She couldn't remember a time in which there hadn't been this weird thing between the two of them. Over the last several years, she was fairly certain she had made vague references to the fact that they should just kiss each other and get it over with when she was with the two of them, but when it was just her and her sister she had taken a completely different tactic. In fact, over the last several months she was sure that she had told Morgan to just have sex with him to put all of the sexual tension to rest. Ellie wasn't believing their study dates were just stuyding anymore, at least they wouldn't be this year. Since Brody was a senior, she doubted that he even cared about his grades as much anymore and so any study date he had with Morgan just confirmed her theory that they liked each other.
It was exhausting, she had to admit. And yet boring all at the same time. Sure, she could admit that she understood the appeal of Brody Finn, just as she was sure that she would have understood the appeal of his parents back in their own day, but she found him to be a little dull for her tastes. He was too - just too much. Too pretty, too nice, too popular... and of course, too much in love with her sister.
"Besides, Brody," she added. "Some of us don't have the opportunity to just sit back and coast this year."

Looking between the two Tyler girls he couldn't help but grin. Despite the fact that they were twins, he couldn't imagine two people who were more dissimilar from each other. Whether they did that on purpose, he wasn't sure but looks aside, the differences in their personalities never ceased to surprise him. So it did kind of surprise him to hear that they were in agreement over their lack of excitement for the school year.
Turning his attention to Ellie, Brody continued to grin, shrugging a little at her statement. "Yeah, well, I'm not sure how much coasting there's really going to be. I haven't actually decided where I'm going for school yet so I think I still have to make sure I'm on my game just in case." And while the truth was that he hadn't decided where he was going to school yet, he hadn't been planning on necessarily fighting off impending senioritis either. For whatever reason, admitting that to Morgan seemed like it was something to be ashamed of and so he instead told her what he thought that she might want to hear. He shifted his weight toward her a little more, "Junior year is great," he told her. "Besides, there'll be a lot of tests and applications to fill out and I seem to recall you enjoying those a bit," he added teasingly.

Morgan shrugged slightly at Brody, offering him a small grin when he shifted closer. "It's a lot of pressure," she insisted. "Besides, I didn't get any of the teachers I really wanted this year," she lied, shrugging. "But we still have our homework dates," she reminded him with a small smile, she took another sip of her drink and pursed her lips. "Is there anything in this? It just tastes like fruit," she observed, noting that it was probably good that she'd told her parents that she wouldn't be home until morning.
Everett didn't often make a habit of coming to high school parties anymore, really. He was over it. But he'd been summoned by Melanie Benson, who he found was always entertaining to be around - if not sometimes a little off putting. And she'd assured him it would be a real laugh. Armed with the knowledge that his own father disliked the parents of everyone there and wondering if everyone there by proxy disliked him, he sunk his hand into his pocket and took a sip of his drink while Melanie laughed and gossiped with a few senior year girls that Everett had never cared for very much himself.
Melanie, meanwhile, busied herself swilling her drink and smiling at the girls as they caught her up on gossip. She smiled brightly at Brody from across the room.

Brody nodded understandingly at Morgan. He had never really been the type of person to let things like tests and teachers affect his opinion of school. Quite honestly, he had always kind of known that it was all formality to a certain extent. When his grandfather had decided that it was time to step down from Finn Industries his father had taken over and he was sure that it was going to be much the same when his dad decided that he didn't want to run the company anymore either. And so he knew that after college he wasn't going to have to look very far to find a job. The reality of that situation was making it more and more difficult for him to really care about whether or not he did well in his final year of high school, let alone making a decision about where he wanted to go to school.
When she asked about her drink he laughed, "Oh, yeah. Just ... go slow?" he suggested before looking up at the crowd that still seemed to be filling in the apartment. He caught sight of Melanie Benson smiling at him and he returned the greeting.
As Brody and Morgan continued to engage in their weird and decidedly awkward conversation, Ellie decided to survey the room, trying to determine whether or not anyone from school had shown up that she would have actually cared to converse with. On the one hand, a party at the home of a popular guy at school brought out a big crowd, but on the other hand there seemed to be too many people from that decidedly "popular" crowd.

Morgan laughed softly at Brody and shook her head. "You know, Brody, we've never actually been drunk together." She'd never actually been drunk. "I feel like this is something we should actually experience before you go away to college and make a bunch of fancy college friends and forget about me," she pointed out, taking a sip of her drink and nodding at him. "What do you think?"
Everett found himself growing bored, surveying the crowd. Excusing himself from the mundane gossip, he took his drink over towards the party's host. He nodded in greeting at Brody, almost hesitantly. Floating in the same social circle, they'd never really had a problem - possibly much to his own father's chagrin. "Finn, some party," he greeted before turning to acknowledge the girls with a charming grin, taking a sip of his drink.

"I think that I might be game for that." Part of him hesitated at the idea, knowing that it was a little outside their normal wheelhouse, but another part was tempted. Morgan was right, he knew, they had never been drunk together. It was actually one of the small handfuls of things that he knew that they had never done together. But the other items on his list he tried not to think about, particularly at the moment. Taking another drink from his glass, Brody let his gaze linger on her for a second. It looked like Ellie had forced an outfit on Morgan that was maybe a bit outside what he was used to seeing her in and it made him suddenly aware of how pretty she actually was. He was glad for the distraction of Everett Quinn as he wasn't sure what would have happened next if he would have kept thinking along the path he had been.
"Quinn," he greeted in response. "Figured we might as well start the school year off with a bang."
Ellie grinned brightly at the new arrival to their small group. "Hi," she said, taking a sip of her drink. She didn't necessarily know Everett very well, but she did have to appreciate that he was an attractive guy. "Decided to come hang out with us lowly high schoolers?" she asked him.

Everett smirked at Ellie, shaking his head at her. "Mel's the one that wanted to drop by and relive her glory days," he gestured with a nod over his shoulder at the brunette. "But I tagged along because she got wind I was back in town and demanded my presence," he shrugged and chuckled. He'd sort of known who the Tyler girls were during high school, but really hadn't paid them much mind at the time. He'd been too busy exacting his own teenage rebellion and pissing his father off on purpose. "But it's not so bad seeing some familiar faces," he offered, taking a drink and winking at her. "Really though, Finn, I highly recommend traveling for a year after you graduate. It's a hell of a lot better than trying to figure out freshmen orientation."
Morgan grinned at Brody and smiled at him when he agreed. As Everett arrived, she decided she would make a bit more quick work of her drink, deciding that she would make good on her promise to actually get a bit drunk. When Everett suggested that Brody go abroad for a year after graduation, her brow furrowed a bit. The idea of him going away to college was bad enough. But the idea of him going abroad and communicating with him via social media and postcards was even worse. "But you'd miss a whole year of school," she pointed out. "You worked really hard fi-we worked really hard filling out your college applications."

Ellie grinned at the mention at seeing familiar faces, but she was finding that she was suddenly feeling really antsy about standing in one place for so long. She was used to mingling with people at parties, but since her sister had decided to attend this one she had promised that she would play wing woman. Well, technically she had promised to go with her to the party, it had been her own decision to try and see if she could facilitate something between Morgan and Brody. All of the back and forth and apparent feeling that they had for each other was giving her whiplash and making her more and more frustrated with them. She watched as her sister seemed to down her drink with fervor and smirked softly, shaking her head. At least a drunk Morgan was less likely to try and talk her way out of whatever Ellie decided to do to set the pair up. "Well, glad you could make it, Everett," she said before looking down at her own half-full glass. "I need a new drink," she announced suddenly, wondering if the secret to getting Brody and Morgan together was actually in getting the two of them drunk together. She wasn't great at the scheming, she knew, but she had already decided to make a little game out of it. "Anyone need one? Morgs?" She nodded at her sister as though to say that she was going to be bringing her a drink either way.
Brody nodded at Everett, having never actually considered the idea of travelling instead of going to school for a year. It wasn't that he didn't think that he could, or that his parents wouldn't support the idea, but the idea of going so far away was still a little unnerving. And for more reasons than he cared to admit. He glanced at Morgan when she spoke up and smiled softly at her, "I've still got time to figure it out, you're stuck with me for a while longer at least." The truth was that he really thought it might have been her companionship that he would miss the most regardless of what he chose to do. That thought was making him a little more depressed than he would have liked and so he polished off what was left in the glass and nodded at Ellie. "Sure, but I can grab them."
Ellie shook her head, "Nope, I've got it. You guys chat and I'll grab drinks for everyone. Everett, do you mind lending me your hands? I only have two of them and I'm not really great at balancing more than one drink in each of them."

Everett wasn't exactly sure what was going on, but when Ellie asked for his assistance, he nodded easily and gestured for her to walk in the direction of the liquor. "Sure thing, I happen to have two perfectly functioning hands," he agreed, following her over.
"Oi, El!" William Blye shouted from across the room, raising his drink at the girl. Having just returned from a summer trip to see his grandmother in London, he'd elected to attend the party despite his dislike of Brody Finn all together. Paying very little mind to Everett as he approached Ellie, reaching for a bottle to refill his glass. "Glad to see you grew out of your awkward phase while I was away," he joked, smirking at her. "Did you get chaperoning your sister's date tonight or are you here to have some fun?" he gestured over his shoulder.
Morgan eyed her sister almost suspiciously but nodded as her sister walked off with Everett Quinn. She quickly finished the last bit of her drink, wincing a bit because the bottom of it had tasted a lot more like alcohol than she'd anticipated. "Oh, that was decidedly less fruity," she announced, sticking her tongue out a bit and then smiling up at Brody. "Just to let you know, I like being stuck with you," she admitted.

Ellie smiled gratefully at Everett. It wasn't like she was trying to necessarily keep her motives entirely hidden, but she figured that any time she had the chance to get her sister alone with Brody she had to take it. And so drinks were perfectly logical excuses to leave them alone in the crowded party, even if it was just for a few minutes. She laughed hearing Will call to her from across the room and shook her head as she mixed her sister a purposefully strong drink. "I'll have you know that I have never been awkward, you must have me confused with the other Tyler girl," she smiled at him and moved on to making the next drink in her queue. "If they would just get it over with and date I would be having a lot more fun, but I'm certainly here to have some fun too."
She didn't blame Morgan for her awkwardness, in fact she found it incredibly endearing, she just wished that she could shake some sense into both of them. "How was your summer?" she asked him, taking a sip of the drink that she had just poured herself. "Will, I'm sure you know Everett," Ellie added, just to make sure that she took care of any necessary introductions. Sometimes the city was both too small and incredibly large at the same time, she was never sure who knew who.

Brody laughed at Morgan's wince, "I'm sorry, I always seem to get a little heavy-handed when making drinks." If he was being entirely honest, he may have also thought that it would have been amusing to see Morgan get drunk at the party too. Not for any malicious reasons, just because she always seemed so serious and focused and he wanted her to let go and have a little bit of fun. Besides, he was here to make sure that things didn't get too out of hand, and she always had her sister too. Smiling back at her he nodded, "That's good. I'm actually pretty fond of being stuck with you too."

Will smirked a bit at Ellie, taking a sip of his drink. He regarded Everett with something akin to boredom before focusing on the young woman in front of him. "I think you should let them fend for themselves and give me a proper homecoming," he teased. "I'm sure Emmett here can serve up some drinks for your sister and Finn," he nodded. "Can't you mate?" he clasped his hand onto Everett's shoulder, which Everett shrugged off immediately. "Woah, easy there."
Everett ticked an eyebrow up at Will, taking a breath. He turned his attention to Ellie and offered her a small grin. "I can get them their drinks if you want," he assured her.

Morgan smiled softly up at Brody, leaning up and pressing her lips gently to his cheek. "You're sweet, Brody. You know, I think I changed my mind about you studying. You should try to get left back a year. Who else will say nice things to me?" Normally, conversation with Brody was easy. Then again, it was normally the two of them - tucked away in his room doing homework or him letting her drag him on some sort of an adventure when they were supposed to be in study hall. Brody had been her best friend and partner in crime for a long time, especially when Ellie was too bored with whatever cause Morgan was fighting for to get involved.
However, because of that, it had been Brody who she'd kissed without thinking when she'd successfully protested the dissection of frogs in her sophomore biology class. And it was Brody who'd kissed her one night over an English textbook when he was trying to convince her that she was pretty and that guys liked her. And Brody who had kissed her when she'd gotten tipsy off of champagne during New Years and asked him to be her midnight kiss. Now, with the prospect of him going away to college in a year, she was thinking about the fact that they'd never had a normal kiss - one without some sort of ulterior reason. Actually, she was thinking about a lot of things they'd never done, all of which made her stomach flutter a bit.
