Ellie Tyler loved Halloween. Actually, she loved any excuse to dress up, whether it was in costume or if it was just dressing up to go out. She had worked with her sister to help figure out her costume, which she had decided was the perfect blend of both classic and sexy. And catlike, of course. After retrieving Einstein's approval of her costume, she and Morgan had made their way to Melanie Benson's suite for the Halloween party. As much as she would have hated to say it out loud, she was looking forward to a night out with her friends considering the fact that her sister's own time had become a little Brody Finn centric. It wasn't that she could even blame her for it, she was sure that she certainly would have become a little boy-crazed if she was in her sister's place, but she kind of mised having Morgan to herself. At the end of the day, Ellie was just so excited for Morgan to be in a relationship with someone that she had been crazy about for such a long time. It had been so amusing to get Morgan ready for their first date, particularly when their mom had continued to take photos and their dad continued to brood. She sipped at the drink that made it into her hands and smiled at her sister, nodding as she saw that Brody had arrived. "Oh look," she chirped. "Your boyfriend is here."

Morgan felt a little ridiculous. Somehow, she had been talked out of her brilliant idea of attaching some stuffed cats to a sweater and going as the other kind of cat lady to compliment her sister's costume. Now her legs were cold and she felt exposed. She fidgeted a bit in her costume, fake glittery green leaves rustling a bit as she did so. She had been given a drink, requesting that it be made by anyone but her sister who had otherwise tried to feed her rubbing alcohol at the last party and sipped it idly when Ellie announced that Brody had arrived. She smiled softly when her eyes landed on him. She briefly wondered about slipping out of the party early with him. She'd come along because every year Melanie Benson had always thrown the best Halloween party, but given the fact that she and Melanie had never really gotten along, she wasn't necessarily eager to stay long and could think of about a thousand things to do with Brody instead. "He's not my boyfriend," she whispered to Ellie. "I don't think so anyway. I mean, we haven't really talked about it."
Melanie Benson was a stubborn and territorial woman. During her time in high school, she'd been nothing short of Queen Bee and had always taken that title seriously, ruling with an iron fist that most other girls saw as tyrannical and but most of the boys seemed to view as benevolent. And so, she found such a title difficult to forfeit even after graduation. A few of the girls still in their senior year regularly reported back to Melanie to keep her up to date on what was going on, perhaps the newest development being her least favorite. So, when Brody Finn entered her annual Halloween party, she was sure to cut him off at the pass before he could even make his way over to Morgan Tyler. "Brody!" she exclaimed, pulling him in to kiss him on the cheek. "There you are! I've been looking for you because I need an official opinion on my costume this year and you're the only one I trust to tell me what you think." She placed her hands on her hip and pushed her chest out slightly, pouting playfully at him. "What do you think?"

Ellie grinned at her sister, wanting to comment on her costume but knowing that as soon as she said something she might find herself having to talk Morgan out of leaving. Tutting into her drink, she shook her head at her sister, tossing her blonde curls a little. "You went on a date with him, you've slept with him - he's your boyfriend whether or not you've talked about it." It seemed logical enough in her opinion. She couldn't help but frown a little bit when she spotted Brody being intercepted by Melanie Benson.
Brody had just spotted Morgan when he found himself suddenly face-to-face with the hostess herself. He hadn't even meant to do it, but he found himself smirking at her a little as he looked over her costume. "What was it that you were going for?" he asked, "If it was a sexy superhero, I think you might have accomplished it." His own relationship with Melanie went back just as far as his relationship with Morgan and Ellie Tyler, but somehow things with Melanie had always been a bit different. She was much more straight-forward, and Brody found it to be both refreshing as well as a little disconcerting at times. Now, for example, he knew that she was trying to make him check her out in whatever way she was, but for whatever reason he seemed to be unable not to play along. Maybe it was because she was an attractive young woman and she knew it, or maybe it was because he was a teenage boy and he just couldn't help himself. Either way, he wasn't really minding the distraction that she was providing.
James Benson knew that his sister could be a lot of things, but first and foremost she truly did look out for him. It was because of that that he found himself a little more willing to play along with her games. Besides, it wasn't as though he was necessarily dreading it. Spotting that his sister had already swept in on Brody Finn, he made his way over to the Tyler girls, grin already firmly in place on his lips. "Hey," he greeted. "I haven't seen you guys for a while, school hasn't gotten crazy already. How are things?"

Melanie beamed up at Brody, placing a hand on his arm. "Sexy, hmmm?" she asked with a light laugh. "You're such a charmer, Brody." She nodded, licking her lips and tilting her head at him. "You look pretty sexy tonight yourself." She grinned at him, leaning in to smile at him. "Everyone else here is boring me, Brody, don't you think it's a shame that I'm bored at my own party?"
Morgan watched the interaction between Brody and Melanie for a moment and stared down at her cup. "Maybe you should've sent him that memo, too," she muttered softly, taking a sip and then looking up at James. "Hi Jamie," she greeted him, soft smile on her lips. "Happy Halloween," she added quickly before shrugging a shoulder up. "Oh, you know, things are fine. You?"
Will Blye loved Halloween, mainly because now that he was past the age of trick-or-treating, he was more inclined to admire the costumes women tended to select for parties. The Halloween was an surefire pass for girls with low self-esteem to wear less than they normally ever would. He was pleased to find Ellie Tyler in attendance. "Here, kitty, kitty," he greeted her with a smirk, taking a pull from his beer bottle and slinging an arm immediately around her shoulders. "Luv, you look positively phenomenal tonight."

Brody laughed softly, shaking his head at her. "A charmer? I think you're trying to flatter me, Melanie." She was flattering him in a way that he couldn't help but enjoy more than he probably should have. He knew that he should have been detaching himself from Melanie to say hello to Morgan, but it wasn't the easiest thing to do as he continued to feel her stroking his ego. "It is a shame," he agreed. "But I'm not sure what you think might amuse you more," he smirked at her a little bit, starting to think that maybe her idea of staying amused was going to be dangerous.
Jamie smiled at Morgan, "Things are going well. School's just starting to pick up a little bit so I'm just starting to keep busy, but I'm sure you know how that goes." He could tell that she was already getting distracted by what was happening with his sister and Brody and so he subtly stepped in front of her, trying to block her view while making it look like he was just shuffling his weight into a new position. "You look great, by the way," he complimented.
Ellie grinned at Will, giving him a little shove. "Oh, shush," she told him with a soft laugh. "Causing much trouble already?" she teased.

Melanie tilted her head up at Brody, shrugging her shoulder up. "I'm sure we could get pretty creative, don't you agree?" she smirked up at him, running her fingers along his arm and biting her lip. "We got pretty creative that one time, remember? I'd be lying if I told you I didn't think about that from time to time." She nodded, shrugging a shoulder up. "I've redecorated since you were last over, can I interest you in the tour?"
Morgan blushed at Jamie's compliment, shaking her head at him. "I feel ridiculous. I look like a potted plant got drunk and drove into the storefront of a craft store. And my legs are cold," she explained to her longtime friend. She smiled at him. "Sophomore year is fun, you know, junior year is where it starts to get stressful, so you should enjoy it," she told him. She took another sip of her drink and tried not to wince at the taste of the alcohol. "But thank you, for the compliment," she added awkwardly. "It was Ellie's idea, actually." She turned and spotted her sister with Will Blye, and Morgan simply wasn't the boy's biggest fan, but Ellie seemed to be having a good time, so she let it be for the time being.
Will smirked at Ellie and shook his head, "Trouble? Me? Perish the thought," he winked at her. "But you do look fetching," he nodded. "Not sure if I want the trick or the treat, actually."

Brody would have been lying if he said that he hadn't thought about it too. Prior to finding Morgan in his bedroom wearing very little, Melanie had been the person who had come the closest to having a very physical relationship with him. He actually thought that she might have ended up being the first person that he slept with, but he wondered if that had more to do with the fact that he hadn't expected that Morgan would ever be as open to things as she was. But since everything had changed with Morgan, and since he had finally taken her on their first official date, he couldn't say that the thought of Melanie had really crossed his mind. At least not in any way that he wanted to admit to. The problem with his relationship with Morgan, however one would define it, was that it seemed incredibly perfect sometimes. Here they were, childhood best friends who just realized that they had feelings for each other. Their relationship seemed to be the sort that would stick around for a while, and that thought scared him. Here he was, an eighteen-year-old boy, who had just lost his virginity and hadn't even gotten a chance to see what other sorts of relationships were even possible. And from the little he had heard about his parents' own past, he felt like the normal thing to do was to explore and experiment. At least, that was how he justified the way that the smirk stayed poised on his lips. "A tour? Sure."
Jamie laughed and shook his head at her, "Well, you at least look like a very pretty potted plant." Maybe the worst part about all of Melanie's plotting was the fact that Jamie actually liked Morgan, at least in the way that someone liked a friend that they had spent most of their formative years with. It wasn't that he necessarily had romantic notions about her, or even that the thought had crossed his find as more than a passing glance, but he still wanted her to be happy at the end of it all. He just hoped that she wasn't too hurt by it all at the end of the day. "Are you starting to think about college now? I kind of remember when Melanie went through all of that around her junior year. The pressure to start applying and to take the SATs."
Ellie smiled into her cup, taking a sip of whatever strange concoction that she had mixed together. She realized that she should probably start paying attention to recipes, but she had a habit of just throwing a dash of whatever sounded good into a cup and hoping that it worked out in the end. Ultimately it ended up yielding much stronger drinks than she might have liked. "Thank you," she gave a little nod, smile still in place. "I was hoping to find a balance between slutty and classy, so I guess having you stumped on the trick or the treat is a good enough comparison. How are you, by the way? I'm sorry we didn't get to catch up much at Brody's party."

Melanie smirked up at Brody, reaching down for his hand and tugging him away from the party. "Perfect," she promised, pulling him inside of her room and closing the door behind them. "This is the bedroom," she told him with a smirk. "It's really where the tour ends." She nodded, leaning in and smirking at him. "The interesting part of the tour anyway."
Morgan looked at Jamie and nodded with a grin. "I mean, I'm excited. I'm going to apply to Princeton, that's my number one choice, then Columbia - but I feel like I really need to get away from the city for college, so Georgetown is third. Then there are back-ups, but I really think that those are it," she nodded. "I signed up to take the SATs early, because I'm hoping to just get them over with and apply early decision. And I did some volunteer work over the summer to pad my college applications - and because my mother says it's important to volunteer." She blushed a bit and then shrugged, "But I've been thinking about it for a while. What about you? Anything new and exciting?" she then beamed, nudging her friend's shoulder gently. "Any girls?"
Will smirked at Ellie, nodding at her. "Well, I'm pretty stumped, but I do love it," he agreed. "And you can it up to me, I'm sure. Because my feelings were awfully hurt that night."

Brody really shouldn't have been surprised by her forwardness, but he was still taken a little off-guard when she directed him straight to her bedroom. There were a multitude of reasons why he should have gotten out of there: the fact that they were at a party for one, the fact that Morgan was at the party for another, and the fact that when it all came together this was just wrong. He easily brushed aside the excuse that they were at a party considering the fact that he would have probably slept with Morgan at his own party had they not decided against it. But the thought of Morgan kept reminding him both that he needed to get out of Melanie's bedroom, and also that it maybe wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if he stayed. Having a relationship with Morgan, a real relationship anyway, threatened to be the last relationship that he ever had. Not because he thought it would end badly and that he would swear off all future relationships, but because he thought that she might have had the potential to someday be the right girl. The girl that he figuratively brought home to his parents and proposed to. And he just wasn't ready for that yet. It was dangerous to continue to be in any sort of relationship, he knew, but at the moment he was enjoying it enough that he was afraid to end it on his own. Melanie was presenting him with an interesting opportunity to explore without having to sacrifice whatever relationship he did have with Melanie. "And what's so interesting about it?"
If there was anything that Jamie knew for certain about Morgan Tyler it was the fact that she was perhaps the most driven person that he knew. He would have called her bookish or studious, but it didn't seem to encapsulate all that she really was. His mom was bookish, but Morgan was something else entirely. She was an academic in all senses of the word, in his opinion. "Do you know what you might want to study at school? Or major in at least?" At her question of things happening in his own life he smiled and shook his head. "I'm really boring. And there are currently no girls." Morgan always seemed to ask about the latter part and he always seemed to have the same answer. It wasn't that he wasn't interested or that he didn't want to date anyone, it was just that it always seemed like there were a thousand other things to do - like play pawn to whatever game Melanie had concocted.
Ellie shook her head, "They were not," she argued. "I'm sure you got a new drink, found a new girl to tease, and completely forgot about little ole me." For whatever reason she couldn't stop smirking at him, toying with the cup in her hand. "But, I'm happy to make it up to you now if you'd like."

Will smirked at Ellie, bending down a bit closer to her ear, "I'll have you know that anything else I did that night was positively boring. You know how I hate being bored." He nodded, looking her over one more time. "How do you think you might want to right this egregious wrong?"
Morgan smiled at Jamie, shaking her head. "I was thinking of going for governmental affairs and concentrating on foreign policy," she nodded. "I think I might make a pretty decent diplomat," she laughed before shaking her head at her friend. Jamie had been destined to be friends with Ellie and Morgan for a long time thanks to their mothers, but she liked the younger boy in the way that one platonically liked someone who she'd known for so long. He was someone she liked talking to and who had always been one of the people she considered genuine friends. When she thought about it, outside of Brody, Jamie, and Ellie, there really weren't many people whose friendships she valued as much. "We need to change that this year. We need to find you a nice, sweet girl that deserves you. I'm going to be very discerning about who makes the grade, but we will."
Melanie smirked up at Brody, her hands easily reaching for the top of her costume, which she'd made certain left very little to the imagination to begin with. She removed it easily and dropped it to the floor, tilting her head up at him. "Me," she answered him easily, reaching for his hand again to tug him towards her, leaning up and pressing her lips against his.

Ellie was vaguely aware of the fact that he kept looking her over in her costume and she stifled a grin in her cup again. She had been telling the truth when she said that she had been aiming for a costume that combined slutty and classy perfectly, but she couldn't help it if she tended to veer a little more toward the slutty side of the spectrum. "You're a clever boy, I'm sure you'll figure something out."
Jamie could see Morgan as a diplomat. Actually he could see her as a lot of things, all of which were terribly impressive and high powered careers where he was sure that she would make a huge difference in the world. With her ambition he wouldn't have been surprised if she would have announced that she planned on being the youngest president the country had ever seen. If he was being entirely honest, if she decided to run two years from now, when he was old enough to vote, he was sure that he would vote for her. "I think you'd make a great diplomat." He smiled at her before shrugging, "You sound like Melanie when you say that, she seems to think that there's not anyone good enough for me either. But I tend to disagree," it was probably Melanie's plotting that made him do it, but he gave Morgan a coy little smile.

Brody hesitated before responding to her. A voice in the back of his head kept telling him that this was wrong, but his body seemed to be responding of its own volition. He kissed her back, one hand pulling her closer by the waist while another explored the newly exposed skin. He broke away from her slightly, finding his attention drawn to her lips, but he forced himself to look her in the eye. "Should we really be doing this now?" But he didn't move to pull away from her any further, his hands still placed on her body.

Morgan looked at Jamie and shrugged. "Your sister and I agree on something, it seems," she looked at him and shook her head, taking a sip of her drink. "But it's nice, you know? Finding someone that likes you. It makes everything exciting and - not to sound like a cheeseball, but it's like one of those songs where everything just seems nicer because you finally know what everyone else has been singing about," she admitted, blushing a bit as she spoke. It occurred to her, briefly, that she hadn't seen Brody in a bit, but didn't want to abandon her friend either. "Still, we should find you someone perfect," she beamed at him, reaching up to ruffle his hair playfully.
Will smirked a bit at Ellie, hand hooking over her shoulder as he took another long sip of his drink. "I've got tons of ideas, actually. If you wanted to get out of here."

Melanie ticked an eyebrow up and smirked at him. She shook her head at him. "We probably shouldn't, but isn't that half the fun?" she grinned, her arms wound around him and she started walking backwards towards her bed. "And I bet we'll have a lot of fun," she added, leaning up to brush her lips against his again, she smirked at him as his hands explored her body, her own reaching for his shirt.

Jamie hesitated, uncertain what he could really say in the moment. Though she had been trying to convince him of the fact that he needed to find a girl for himself, he was getting a very strong feeling that she was just using her own relationship with Brody as an example. He had no idea that things had gotten so romantic comedy-esque with them already and it made him feel a little badly that he had agreed to try and seduce her in the manner that he had. "Perfect?" he laughed. "I don't know. Perfect to me is finding that person that you already know that you like spending time with and then anything beyond that is just extra. That's probably why so many people say that friends make the best dates." But as much as he was hoping to plant the idea that they should give something a try, he was sure that she would be able to easily apply that to her situation with Brody.
Ellie momentarily froze. For all that she tried to play herself off as being a strong, sexy, confident young woman, she knew that the entire thing was a farce. She had never been on a date, never slept with anyone, and had barely made it off of first base. Somehow Morgan had become the experienced on in their house and though Ellie had asked questions and read dozens and dozens of issues of Cosmopolitan magazine, she still felt her nerves rising at the idea of doing any more. And she knew, or at the very least suspected, that if she left with Will, she'd be in unknown territory. "Oh?" she managed to get out. "Any hints?"
